Parents, do pop in to share tips about how you’ve found good tutors for your kids! My youngest is 14. We’ve hired tutors for mostly CL2, as well as for maths and science in the PSLE years. For evaluating tutors: for us, it’s about the feedback that they give. Are tutors sensitive, to have certain conversations out of earshot? If they notice issues like carelessness, what’s the strategy for dealing with this? Do they just give practice papers week after week, or do they also retest? For English tutors, we haven’t hired any, but I think the evaluating factors might be: how do they speak/text in casual/conversational situations, and what materials are they using? We’ve avoided model essay books Hope to hear from others!

Hey Kiasuparents, We’re Bit by Bit Coding, a groundup that teaches Python for free. No catch, no fees, no experience prerequisites, and no “premium track” hidden behind paywalls. Our mission is to remove financial barriers to deep technical literacy. BbB acts as the zero-cost capstone bridge for passionate students, teaching them data structures, object-oriented programming, and foundational AI/ML at zero cost. We are recognised under the BAGUS Together ecosystem (an initiative by NVPC, Temasek Foundation, and Tote Board), supported by the Singapore Government Partnerships Office (under MCCY), and currently run our main cohorts out of *SCAPE Singapore. We’re also an official programme under Temasek Foundation’s OSCAR Fund. Our work is supported by partners like MSF ComLink+ and Club Rainbow. Term 2 starts mid-July Taster: 4-weeks, no selection tests, no commitment! (Try out the BbB pedagogy, build bonds with like-minded youth, tackle interesting problems, and build the foundation for the next step.) After the four weeks, we’ll ask you if you want to continue. We select the cohort for the 12-weeks from our taster. Slots are highly limited to keep the student-to-tutor ratio low, so that every student can get the best support. Beginner -> Intermediate: 12-weeks, handpicked group of highly-motivated students who want to learn to code and benefit the community. (Our flagship Python programme designed by our highly experienced tutors and industry experts. Highly beginner-friendly, yet rigorous enough for you to build things for the causes you care about.) DON’T MISS OUT: Students who finish our Python core will be offered placements in our future AI/ML and robotics courses, developed and delivered in conjunction with highly experienced industry experts. What you’ll actually learn: Weeks 1–4 (Taster): Python basics — variables, control flow, loops Weeks 5–16 (Beginner→Intermediate): Lists, dicts, functions, File I/O, recursion, sorting algorithms, OOP, linked lists, binary trees — and a 3-week hackathon with prizes Who’s this for? Anyone aged 13–22. Sec 1, sec 4, JC, Poly, ITE or Homeschool. If you’ve never touched code or you’ve been messing around in Scratch and want something real, this is it. Our past cohorts had >75% first-time coders. You don’t need prior experience! What you need: A laptop (or Chromebook/iPad + keyboard) Curiosity Commitment to show up for the lessons Willingness to uplift your community What you don’t need: Money (it’s free) Good grades Experience with coding Why we exist: We filled the gap between free intro programmes (Code for Fun, Code in the Community — mostly Scratch) and private enrichment that costs hundreds a month. We’re recognised under BAGUS Together (NVPC, Temasek Foundation, Tote Board), supported by the Singapore Government Partnerships Office (SGPO, MCCY) and an official programme of the OSCAR fund by the Temasek Foundation. Our tutor team boasts volunteer tutors from NUS, NTU, SP, NYP, HCI and VJC, as well as industry experts. We’re building a community of inspiring students, professionals and changemakers looking to create a space for youths to explore, to learn, to grow, and then to love. For far too long, coding has been locked behind stereotypes (of what it is, and who gets to learn it) and expensive programmes. Bit by Bit aims to shatter those misconceptions and build a community of like-minded youths and mentors who believe that coding is not just a hobby, but a tool for tangible social change. We believe that Bit by Bit is, in some tangible, meaningful way, a revolution in the way that we think about coding, and about who gets to learn it. Come learn a new skill! Re: PSLE Discussions and Strategies DEAR PARENTS, We’re the team behind ##### Pickytic.ai, full transparency, this is our official account. We’re not pretending to be regular users. We wanted to introduce ourselves properly before anything else. WHY WE BUILD THIS We kept hearing the same things from students and parents: “I study every night but my score never moves.” “I only find out what I’m weak at during the actual exam.” “I have no idea if what my child is doing is actually working.” Doing more papers doesn’t fix the problem. It just keeps you busy. The students who actually improve are the ones who know exactly which topics are pulling their marks down and drill those specifically. Not randomly. Not by gut feel. WHAT PICKYTIC DOES We built an AI that tells you exactly this, after every single practice session: → What you’ve already mastered → What still needs work → What to focus on next On top of that: Real exam simulations: Timed, pressured, exactly like the actual thing. So exam day isn’t a shock. Progress tracking: So improvement isn’t just a feeling. Students and parents can both see it clearly. Gamified practice: Because staring at ten-year-series papers gets old fast. We made it actually engaging. It covers all Primary and Secondary levels, not just PSLE and O-levels, but every level, every term. Honest question for you to think of:bolded text Whether you’re a student or a parent, do you actually know which specific topics are costing you marks right now? Not just “I’m weak at Maths.” But which part of Maths. Which question type. Which concept. That gap between knowing your weak subject and knowing your weak topic is usually what decides whether you improve or plateau. We’d love to hear what subject or topic is giving you the most trouble right now. We’ll give genuinely useful advice, not just a pitch. We’re a Singapore team. We understand the PSLE and O-level pressure well. We built this because we genuinely believe there’s a better way to prepare than just doing more papers. link text[image: 1780807227377-pickytic_logo.jpg]

Hello Mummies and Daddies, I am currently providing One-on-One Math home tuition (I travel to students’ place or any neutral venue). I started off in 2009 on a part time basis and am doing this on a full time basis now. Very devoted and committed towards students; accepts queries from students outside of lessons’ time so that they do not have to wait till the next lesson to seek help. A true example of one who was so weak at Math when he was younger to slowly becoming better and eventually completing a Mathematics degree at Nanyang Technological University, I know how it feels to actually be ‘bad’ in Math. I hope to be able to motivate and encourage you; being weak now does not mean you are going to be weak forever! I was very thankful to be able to read a major I was passionate about back in Nanyang Technological University, and now combining the 2 things I enjoy (Children and Math) for my everyday lives. In addition to local students, I had tutored quite a number of international students, both from local schools and international schools (IGCSE); I am able to teach each individual differently, each catered to their specific needs as I recognise there is no ‘One-Size-Fits-All’ method for all students. More than just a result oriented tutor, I believe the key to ultimate success is the continued communication with parents to highlight any possible ways to help the child become better and more interested in learning Math. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to engage me to tutor your child for Mathematics. New FREE Tutor Matching Platform in Singapore (No Commission, No Middleman) Hi all, just wanted to share a new platform I came across that could be useful for both parents and tutors: https://find-tutor-fast.base44.app/ It’s a completely free tutor–parent matching platform — no agency fees, no commission cuts, and no intermediaries. Why this is interesting: $0 fees for both parents and tutors Direct matching (no agent taking a cut) Fast connections — post or browse and match quickly Designed for SG curriculum (PSLE / O / A Levels etc.) For context, many traditional tuition agencies in Singapore still charge commissions or coordination fees for matching services — so this is a pretty refreshing alternative if you prefer a more direct approach. Who it’s for: Parents looking for affordable, flexible tuition options Tutors who want to keep 100% of what they earn Anyone tired of going through agents just to connect Would be interesting to see how this grows — especially since more platforms are moving toward direct, commission-free matching models in SG. If you’ve tried it (or similar platforms), curious to hear your experience

Hey everyone I recently built a small web app called Kind Points: https://kindpoints.vercel.app It’s a simple reward system for kids—parents can track positive behaviors (like helping, sharing, kind words) and assign points, as well as deduct points for negative actions. You can add multiple children and customize the rules. I originally made this to help manage behavior at home and make things feel more fair and structured (especially in a blended family situation). It’s completely free to use—no subscription,no ads. Would really appreciate any feedback: Is the point system fair / realistic? Any features you think are missing? UI/UX improvements? Thanks in advance
