Time schedule & life of Secondary School

Fairy:
Yes, but not at the expense of one's health. Having enough sleep is very important at the age of growing, especially, even for we adults. Health should come first.
It is quite common for students to juggle a few CCAs in his school.
My son's school actually did advise them to choose just 1 CCA cos there will be many activities link-up with the CCA. -

My child does not have good time management. That is why I am totally against him getting involved in so many things. His argument is that the merit CCAs he signed up for are his interests. I am yet to see if he is able to cope with his studies. There will be an opportunity cost for his involvements. So far, he does what is most urgent and the minimum to meet deadlines. Tuitions or revision are out of the question. Even his piano practice has no priority. He has piles of unread notes at home. What can I do? At this age, we can only advise and guide. Ultimately, he has to face the consequences of his actions and decisions. If I have my way, I'll rather he has more time for rest and relaxation and time for doing Nothing.
Hi Fairy,Fairy:
Merit CCAs are optional. But the school strongly encourage the students to join. These include the clubs & societies like Infocomm, Robotics, Science, Maths, Photography, Publication, AV, Debating & etc. Merit CCAs usually demands shorter hours (aprrox 2) and once a week. However, some, like Debating & Infocomm require more time commitments as competitions are involved.

you child has good time management. it's not easy to juggle with so many CCAs. Already with 1 core CCA, my son is struggling to make time for everything. -
March holiday is arriving, so far my child has not got any schedule to go back to school. Looks like he has a chance to take a good break. What about yours?

Hi zann, mine has no schedule yet to go back. However, as she is scoring quite badly in her tests of the first semester, she is planning to make use of the March holidays to brush up. And she has CA test for French after the holidays.
As I mentioned, she is scoring badly and she is very shocked. We have heard a lot its quite normal for the 1st semester of Sec 1 but she is quite disappointed on herself. How about the Sec 1 kids out here ? -
Hi there,
My daughter is sec 1 in an IP school too.
She's very busy too - project, CCA, homework and stuff.. But generally she seems to be enjoying herself.

My child will be camping in school from Monday to Friday! One CCA's camp followed by another. In fact, he has to miss the first day of camp for the 2nd CCA. -
My son has CCA for 2 days and another 2-3 days for group project work. Tuition as usual so there goes the 1 week holidays. Sigh…

Ya, there goes the one week break- thot I would be seeing more of him but now, looking at his schedule, I doubt so.
He has two school camps to attend, CCA trainings and church soccer competitions take up two mornings. And I'm sure there will be projects and research assignments.
What to do?
for good health, strength and boundless energy for him lor! -
It’s very very normal to be stressed out … my worst results in my whole secondary school life was when I was in Sec 1 (looking back, I don’t understand HOW I could have done so badly since everything was much easier then lol)
Ahh it’s okay! You’ll get used to it! (and honestly speaking, it really hinges on time management; after a while you’ll realize that you can just do a crap job for certain things and still get by but you’ll need to make sure others are perfect). Anyway, it’s better to be busy in Secondary School rather than JC; opportunities are much rarer and you’ll be much more busy (I’ve stayed back til 11+ twice already).
I really don’t remember what my Sec 1 schedule was like but here’s my Sec 4 one:
Mon: School ends at 2:30, Piano until 4:30, by the time I get home it’s around 5:00
Tues: School ends at 2:30, CCA until about 5:00
Wed: School ends at 2:00
Thurs: School ends at 2:30
Fri: School ends at 2:30, CCA until 6:00
Sat: Yangqin from 10:30 - 11:30am, Tuition from 4:30-6:30pm, go to Grandma’s house for dinner, go home at about … 10:00.
Sun: Church from 11:30 - 1:30, if I’m on duty, 8:30 - 1:30/4:00 (depending on whether we have a meeting after serving)
What really killed me was the fact that I had nearly no weekend to do my homework at all (I crammed in on wed and thurs haha).
Just relax and support your kid!
Most people take a while to adapt so bad grades are pretty normal (I got a C5 for History in Semester 1)
