Anybody who is current or old students or have a daughter or friends from Singapore Chinese Girls or Cedar girls, can you give me more information regarding these 2 schools? Be it positive or negative views. Cos open house is always full of good views but never the negative sides. Just want to look at these 2 schools from a more objective perspectives. Thanks

Thank you so much.. what should be the choice of schools you think..i.e how many points should I keep higher than my sons COP .. i.e. 2 points, 3 points or 5 points ..?
Hmm, last year RV COP was 251 too. RV is one of the preferred secondary schools in my class.HopefulFather:
Thank you yongjianrong ! thanks once again for this..
ACS(I) cut-off is 251 which worries me. that is 5 points higher..
how much RV would be for this year ..? Confused..confused.. :?:
Just a side note, RV only offers Chinese and Higher Mother Tongue is compulsory.
On the other hand, ACS offers Chinese/Malay/Tamil. -

Thanks for the advice. After consulting my form teacher, i've decided to drop Nan Hua. My teacher actually told me that COP may increase cos the papers were easy. If that's the case, should i put in Jurong (5th choice: COP 226) and Bukit Batok Sec (6th choice: COP 221) instead? Then take out either Fuhua or Kranji??
Don't be disappointed. 230 is not a bad result.ycpang:
I'm very disappointed with my results.
I got 230 + 2 (HCL)...can I put the choices as below:
1. Nan Hua (COP 09:242)
2. Commonwealth (COP 09: 236)
3. Swiss Cottage (COP 09: 234)
4. Clementi Town (COP 09: 230)
5. Fuhua (COP 09: 229)
6. Kranji (COP 09: 229)
or should i give up Nan Hua and put COmmonwealth as my first choice and my last choice be Jurong (COP 226)
thanks in advance.
My advice is to give up Nan Hua. The COP is too far and beyond reach. And your current last two choices do not give you enough safety net. So it will be good to put Jurong as your last choice.
Any other schools in the West that i can select? Also If i'm willing to travel, can i put Chung Cheng High (Yishun)?
I'm so confused now.....If you are me, what will your 6 choices be? Thanks all in advance!
Chung Cheng High (Yishun) is also a good choice if you don't mind to travel. -

Hi Cascada,DS has a few friends who are appealing to go RI even though they have secured a place at other IP sch via DSA. Their t-score is 260+.
I feel there might be more boys out there with other DSA offer now appealing to go RI.
I wonder how does this affect the available vacancies for S1 posting?
If these boys are successful in their appeal & transfer to RI, would the number of vacancies at RI be reduced for S1 posting? If so, does this mean that those with t-score that just meet COP or 2 points below COP might be at risk if they plan to put RI as their 1st choice for S1 posting?
Thank you very much for your inputs. It is true that RI is a sought-after school and competition will be stiff. But this year the PSLE cohort size has shrunk to about 45,000+ while the number of seats available in RI (or in other schools) has not shrunk.
That is why my son's teacher says that the CoP of RI is most likely to fall by 2 marks (from 259 last year to 257). So in her view, there is not much risk in putting RI as first choice for scores of 258 or 257. -
For those who are comtemplating btwn NYGH vs RGS, or HCI vs RI, pls keep a few things in mind: 1.distance (you dont want to choose a schl too far away) 2. siblings (but this only applies to some cases) 3. culture/environment (chinese - based vs chinese - based) 4. CCAs (its best to choose a school that offers a CCA that is suitable for your child) 5. the JCs (RJC vs HJC) 6. if your child can cope (one psle top scorer was a mainstreamer and achieved gd results so he went to RI, but as he cannot cope with the fast paced curriculum there, he dropped out after 10 mths) thats all for now. in terms of academics, the schls are all roughly the same, but there are always other impt factors

my dd is from cedar.
her cop is slightly above the mean cop of the sch and she did pretty well for her exams this yr. In cedar, almost everyone is from the top 2 classes of their pri sch. so i would say everyone is on par and it all depends on the girls how much effort they want to put into their studies. also the girls come from all over spore and they all have to start making new friends.
but most important is that she is really happy there and enjoying herself.
i'm not sure of scgs but i do have friends whose girls are in scgs. scgs is independent. so sch fees are much higher. also their cop for non-affiliation is higher because they have to cater to their pri sch affiliation.
perhaps you may like to consider the distance. they all spend pretty long hours in sch. -
Hi! I am kind of caught in a dilemma. I am already dsa-ed into ACSI, but with an aggregate score of 262, I am considering going to Raffles Institution. I intend to appeal to RI. Can someone tell me what my chances are of getting into RI and which is better, RI or ACSI and why?
Thanks a million! -

5. Fuhua
6. Jurong or Bukit Batok (COP was 226, Band 8 and 221, Band 5 respectively)
i'm so grateful to all who replied. thank you again. -

For top 10%, has to be those students who are offered all 3 categories of 3rd language. I'm interested to know too ...[
My son scored 252 +3,he has been offered all the 3 categories of third language choices as well as HMTL. His friends who scored below 250 have been offered categories 1 and 2 third language choices.
Maybe someone can say if 240+ have that letter (cfrm all 3 categories).
