According to what i have heard, it appears that weiqi is very easy to take up the hobby. Whereas for Chess, the children needs to memorize the moves each pieces. Not too sure if this will affect kids interest?

Weiqi is more fun I guess...it's not as simple as forming lines, but you need to place the 'qi' at a strategic place to eventually beat your opponent. πŸ˜„

And there are many ways of playing weiqi whereas for chess, the movement is fixed.

My son learns chess, but I will also like him to pick up weiqi soon… He’s 7.

I get the feeling that weiqi is more complicated and if a child is only 5 years old, maybe he should start with chess.

I think both reap equal benefits in terms of logical thinking, and both improves analytical and creative abilities of the child.

Weiqi is more complicated than chess, in terms of the trees of possibilities.

But for a child, chess pieces look quite cute and varied, even though their movements are fixed. πŸ™‚

In terms of permutations, weiqi is definitely more complicated. However, chess alone is difficult to master.

Both are games easy to pick up. There are various similarities like opening strategies, middle games, end games, etc.

And both reap the same benefits in helping the mind to develop more logical thinking.

no no no.. and yes yes yes,

                :celebrate:

I manage to learn the game of weiqi in an hour. its really easy, just need to surround the seeds and i can capture it. It is really fun to start playing. Whereas for chess, I need to memorize every moves of the pieces, thus, i don't really like chess.

Although I only played Weiqi afew times, I heard that the strategy for weiqi can become very complex, and no computer program today could beat a low level professional..

                  Hello,

My son is 7 yrs and has been picking up chess from parents. Hes getting good now and we are wondering if he can join any chess clubs where he gets to play with children who are equally skilled.

                  Greatly appreciate your suggestions.

                  Thanks!

If his school has a chess club, that might be good to start him there as it will become a good CCA later and he has interest in it.
