      Please help with the following question:

      Vicky and Jane were given a certain amount of money to spend. If Vicky spent $90 and Jane spent $30, Vicky would have $100 left when Jane had spent all her money. If Vicky spent $30 and Jane spent $90, Vicky would have $580 left when Jane had spent all her money, Find the total amount of money given to Vicky and Jane.

      Thansks.
      Hi

      spending ratio when Jane spent $90:
      Jane : Vicky = 90: 30 = 3u : 1u, Vicky had $580 left

      spending ratio when Jane spent $30:
      Jane : Vicky = 30 : 90 = 3u : 9u, Vicky had $100 left

      so total amount Vicky had = 1u + $580 = 9u + $100
      8u = $480, 1u = $60

      Total amount of money = 4u + $ 580 (or 12u + $100) = $820

      cheers.

        Need help with these two questions

        1)If Gary gives Hillary $50, both of them will have the same amount of money. If Hillary gives Gary $22, the ratio of Gary's money to Hillary's money will become 2:1. How much money does Hillary have?

        2)Ben, Rachel and Willy had 8.61 kg of modeling clay altogether. Ben gave Rachel 0.54kg of clay, Rachel gave Willy 0.21 clay and Willy gave Ben 0.37kg of clay. Ben then had twice as much clay as Rachel and Rachel had twice as much clay as Willy. How much clay did Willy have at first?

        Thank you so much !
        Hi

        http://i54.tinypic.com/2h3mq77.jpg\">

        For Q2, try working backwards.. in the end, Ben would have 4 units, Rachel 2 units and Willy 1 unit. So, in the end Ben would have 4/7 x 8.61 kg = 4.92 kg and so forth, then work backwards.. give it a try ๐Ÿ˜„

        cheers.

                Hi

                6160 = 40 x 7 x 22
                y = 22 x 40 = 880

                cheers.

                  Hi,

                  Please help with the following question:

                  A bag contains a number of 20-cents, 50-cents and $1 coins. 1/3 of 20-cent coins is equal to 2/3 of 50-cent coins. There are 3/5 as many 50-cent coins as $1 coins. If the total value of these coins is $23.10, how many coins are there altogether?

                    Hi

                    First, find the ratio of the number of coins :
                    20cent : 50 cent = 2: 1
                    50cent : $1 = 3 : 5

                    So, ratio of number of coins - 20cent : 50cent : $1 = 6 : 3 : 5
                    ratio of value of coins - 20cent : 50cent : $1
                    = 6 x 2u : 3 x 5u : 5 x 10u
                    = 12u : 15u : 50u, total 77u

                    77u = $23.10, 1u = $0.30

                    Number of coins:
                    20 cent = 12 x 0.30 /0.20 = 18
                    50 cent = 15 x 0.30/0.50 = 9
                    $1 = 50 x 0.30/1= 15

                    Total number of coins = 18 + 9 + 15 = 42

                    cheers.

                      Hi all, please help me with this question.

                      A truck started its journey from Village Tiku to Village Chuka at 16 30. At the same time, a bus started travelling from Village Chuka to Village Tiku.

                      The ratio of the truckโ€™s speed to the busโ€™s speed is 8:3.At 17 00 the two vehicles passed each other. The truck increased its speed and reached Village Chuka at 17 20 while the bus increased its speed by 18km/h.

                      When the truck reached Village Chuka, the bus is still 40 km away from Village Tiku.

                      What is the distance between the two villages?

                      Thanks in advance.

                        i hv one qn.

                        3 taps have been installed to fill a container with water.
                        Tap a and b together will take 3 hours to fill the containers completely.
                        Tap c and b together will take 4 hours to fill the same container completely. Tap a and c together will take 6 hours to fill the same container completely.
                        How long will it take for the three taps together to fill thelntaiers completely?

                        Can we say 2a+ 2b + 2c =13 hours
                        Hence a +b+c=6.5 hours?
