MGS is a prestigous school. Is it only prestigous?

Today, where is MGS academic standing ?

MGS beat SCGS and some co-ed GEP schools flat

        MGS Phase 2B
        45 registered, 28 vacancies

        http://mgs.sch.edu.sg/documents/0000/2605/P1_Registration_Data_-_Phase_2B_20.07.2012_4.30pm.pdf

seems like too many Christian applied MGS. Must stay within 1 km
Think no control and requirements over who can be issued with the church letters for registration. If there are some requirements set by MGS and ACS, the no. of applications may reduce.

            Hi phtthp,
Thanks for the insights on MGS.
            Any comparison with RGPS?

              Hi mummies,

I need some advice here. We are staying 1km within NYPS and 1-2km within RGPS. Which school do you think I'll have a higher chance on getting in? We would be registering in phase 2C.

NYPS would be a better fit for us because of the distance and I think it would suit my daughter more since Chinese is her strength. Plus I also like that it's a mix school.
Based on past 2 years stats, both schools conducted balloting for applicants staying within 1km in phase 2C. So u will get a chance to ballot if u apply NYPS, but no chance if u apply RGPS.

Anyway this year it may be dfifererent due to the segregation between SC and PRs. U need to monitor the numbers in these 2 schools.

MGS definitely more popular than RGPS coz it is a full school, afflilated to the secondary school. Whereas for RGPS there is no afflilation to the secondary school. Ur girl need to excel in PSLE to gain into RGS, no advantage over students from other schools.

                  Hi

Can i check if NYPS is balloting for with 1-2km? or outside 2km?
U referring to balloting under phase 2B this year?
                  For NYPS :
Balloting will be conducted for SC children residing between 1km and 2km of the school.

                    I'm a Daddy - can I try to answer?

To answer your question, you'd have to know how many places are allocated to 2C in the year you're interested in and how many parents are applying at this stage (and of these how many are within 1km and so allocated ahead of you). For both schools.

I'm pretty sure none of that information is knowable ahead of time.

For you, I'd say the 1km thing is in your favour and I think (but stand ready to be corrected by the old-hands) that this consideration outweighs the fact that for this year at least RGPS has more places available for 2C - 42 versus 25 for NYPS. However, for NYPS there is the consideration that a potentially large number of applicants from the d'Leedon condos will affect 2013 and beyond.

Guess will have to monitor closely and pray very hard! :xedfingers:
