How much can we expect to pay for such qualified teachers? Do they all do home class, or do we need to go to their school/studio/home?

Most teachers who have established a certain reputation will not travel so it’s either to their home or studio. Fees will probably be around $100 per hour. If the teacher is "branded", ie churning out plenty of winners in the competition field, or perhaps is a prodigy of international stars then the fee commanded will naturally be higher, around $150-200 region. However this is not to say, the more they charge the better they are as a teacher. There are those who perhaps are "up and coming", that are good teachers too.

What’s the reasonable rate for 45min home lesson for beginners if the teacher has a diploma n abt 10yrs teaching experience?

To be honest I would say track record is more important than experience.

There are teachers who have been teaching for very long time but did not bother to refine their craft and their students are just average.

And there are also young teachers who have been only teaching for a few years but are passionate about teaching and their students produced stellar results.

                        Hi,

My DS (8 yrs old) just finished his grade 1 practical exam from music school. It seems like the progress of music school is a bit slow. Thought of switching him to private. Teacher quoted $190 per month for an hour lesson.(lesson at teacher’s house)

                        - Is the rate reasonable?
                        - What are the vital questions that I need to know about the private teacher?

                        Thanks
