almost everyone gets selected for mep . In fact everyone as the record holds.Today need to register the third language in MOE Bishan Language center.
But we also want to join the MEP program.
NJC suggest either MEP or third langauge. Better donot take 2 together.
But we donot know whether can be selected by MEP. -
new_julie:
Yes, 3rd Language and MEP days clash, so cannot take together. There is high attrition rate for 3rd Lang, I heard? But then again, some do drop out of MEP after the 2nd year. Students need to sign a 2 year commitment when they join MEP, and another 2yr commitment in Year 3... maybe another in Year 5 if they continue to take MEP lah.Today need to register the third language in MOE Bishan Language center.

So this year's MEP selection test is 3rd Jan? Last time was only at the start of the school year, and yes, like the other person said, most get through. My child's year, only 1 didn't get through, I think - bc that student wasn't familiar with western theory notation. -

For your info, NJC is not a MOE MEP center for its Junior High (sec 1-4) music elective programme, but it does follow along the guidelines of the MOE's MEP curriculum. Not being a MOE MEP center does mean there's some flexibility though. To join and withdraw from programme is up to the discretion of the school - NJC, don't need to involve MOE, unlike in other schools that are MOE MEP centers. -
Hi, my DS will be joining JH1 next year. Have some questions regarding the CAFE. DS plays the violin. Can he join the String Orchestra? Noticed that the the String Orchestra is not listed under the Performing Arts (as stated in the briefing slides to JH1 on 20th Dec).

Yes, he can join the string orchestra. My child joined from the start of JH1 while going through 3 terms of CAFE CCA as well.
You can contact the Teacher-in-Charge Ms Tang about this.
I'll send you a private message. -

Yes, he can join the string orchestra. My child joined from the start of JH1 while going through 3 terms of CAFE CCA as well. The first performance with them was already during the NJC arts fest in April.

=My dd has only grade 2 theory and grade 5 practical for piano so she did nt sign up cos te slides require minimum grade 3 for practical and theory. I did tell her to try but she feels she will be rejected cos shes only grade 2 theory but will be taking grade 5 theory exam next yr. Wll they reject application if she does nt meet with the min requirement?

No idea - you have to ask the teachers-in-charge.

I see on that website it only says this about the MEP audition/trials:
JH1 Proficiency Tests/Audition
03 January 2013, 2.00pm - 5.00pm
Venue: Music Room
Please bring your own instrument and 2 contrasting pieces for the audition
http://www.njc.edu.sg/MusicDept/about.html
\"Junior High/ Senior High students who are extremely keen on joining the Music Programme but do not fulfill the stipulated requirements are encouraged to email any of the music teachers with information regarding their musical background to help ascertain their suitability for this programme. Those deemed suitable will be called for an audition and selection test.\" -

Strings & Piano Ensemble are not listed under CAFE, but students who wish to join can always ask to.
From school website:
\"NJC typically requires its JH1 students to join ‘niche’ CCAs in their 1st year at college as part of the compulsory CAFE CCA programme. Piano Ensemble and String Ensemble are not considered niche CCAs; however, students proficient on their instruments are invited to audition...will be put on the Talent Management Scheme, which exempts them from the CAFE programme and allows them to join either Piano or Strings Ensemble instead.\"
