:congrats: to BeContented and fanren DC

For Mama Mania, a word of reassurance. From what I know, this year is tough on our DCs. My beef is schools load them w too much work. Quantity not quality. Too little time going thru mistakes (if it ever gets marked???). Most parents of other P6 kids are now like me πŸ¦† resigned to seeing them do schoolwork even on Suns. Ironically, we are all now hands off cos our DCs (all in diff schools) are spending way too much time on homework. I have told my DD if at any time she cannot cope with schoolwork, let me know I will intervene BUT if I do that, the onus will be on ME to plan and strategize. DD is not confident my way will be better πŸ˜‚ Right now I am just supporting DD by being around whenever I can while she does homework, trying to nag at her less, ensuring she has enuf rest and food, trying to get her out of the house to exercise rather than watch TV, play computer when she has pockets of time; and I have told my frens with kids in P5 - DONT buy any assessment books, top school exam papers. The way it is going, they can inherit all of mine ... :stupid:

just curious...how do u define an effective tuition programme? is it based on like increase of a certain number of grades within a given specific period of time?

and with so little time left before the PSLE, how do you gauge if your strategy is working well for you?

....love to hear from our parents. πŸ™‚
        hi JohnYeo

This would be based on the objective of tuition in the first place relative to my DC needs. If I wanted to stretch DC then I would expect worksheets that show that make the diff. If I wanted someone to teach DC concepts, then the tutor's notes would reflect that. If I wanted specific improvement in marks, I would have made known to the tutor from the start. Right now I have no strategy beyond helping my DC cope with schoolwork and counterchecking quality of work... and worrying if this is enuf

Personally, I feel that results is a good indication if the programme is effective. Eg. for existing programme, I would look at their ability to sustain their results. For new programme, probably if there are improvement after 1 term eg. the techniques, etc.... dd was telling me that after her EL tuition, so far she is able to gain 4-5 marks more in her EL paper 1. So they are now working on her paper 2.... major overhaul... But yes, if she can improve by 5-10 marks that to me is a sign that it's working.... :xedfingers:

Omg... today is the first day for SA1.... compo and oral.... πŸ™ for decent SA1 scores.

I realised over the weekends that there are so many key timeline/ activities to watch out of this year.... How I wish we are already in october....

              Hi mummyv,

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like there will always be worrying for our DC. I agree having a clear objective in the beginning is very important so that we know what we can look for (signs of improvements) along the way.

Jia You! 6 months more....and we KSP parents are all on the same boat! So hang on there!

              John

                Hi MMM,

Times really flies. Your DC's SA1 start so early? I know some other children and mommies still have 1 more week to prepare. I have been reading your post and I feel your DC is going to do well under your guidance and care. Looks like she is already improving in her English and you are aware what to look for to make sure she is always improving till her PSLE... πŸ™‚ congrats!

October will be here very soon...after SA1, then is June one month of mugging and then once school reopens then is Prelim soon and very soon your wish will come true...here comes October! πŸ˜›

Thanks John for the kind words and encouragement. Frankly... on the lookout for hope to keep us going. We need hope...

Yes.... this year seems like non-stop. After SA1, they need to start preparing for prelim. My dd's schedule is already packed with those additional PSLE intensive lessons during June.... I am praying that dd works hard now and by October and November, she can sit back and relax and importantly enjoy the fruit of her labour.... Yes.... I am πŸ™ hard.

There are so much anticipation of what is to come. There maybe happiness/ disappointments along the way (eg. DSA results which is beyond our control) but whatever the outcome, will never know if it is a blessing in disguise if things don't happen for a reason.

I told her that I need her to coach her P5 ds and P2 dd after her PSLE. Too bad we can't drop everything and enjoy right after PSLE.

You are welcome. We all need others to give us hope once in a while, including myself too.

I feel everything will go smooth for you. Yes, there's alot we can't control but we need to enjoy the process. It's something I learnt from reading, to achieve the best results, yes, we can plan for it and very importantly, must enjoy the journey while remembering what our goals are...just something I learnt and I hope to share with you...and maybe it will be useful, I hope...

Your DD1 and your other children will do just fine...how I hope in the future, my DDs will be like your DD1....helping siblings out... πŸ˜›
