sad to see the state of NJC now, I also heard many complaints from my niece who is JC2 this year in NJ. I was a former NJCian, my time, it is as good as HCJC. Hopefully the new principle Lucy Tay who was also a president scholar from NJC around my time, will bring back former glory.

And what do you expect her to do? NJC is a govt JCs - it doesn't decide to hire teachers, fire them, double the bonuses of better ones.

Hi lazygal21,

Not sure if you got your DD’s buy-in before you wrote the letter to the school. At this age, whatever we do/say to people around her matters a lot of them, esp if they don’t like adults to meddle in their stuff. They always say they can cope, and we always know that probably they that is not entirely true, but as they get older, the more we try to ‘help’ them, the more things may backfire, like what pirate mentions. At 12-13, my girl will still let me access her school email…no way now. Recently there was a petition initiated by parents in my girl’s school about some CCA stuff, I also make sure I ask my girl before deciding if i should put my name on it.

I think you are not giving enough weight to what your DD wants. You can gaslight her now because she is only 12/13 years old and make her feel 'abit regret', but she may blow up and rebel when she is 15/16. If that happens, quality of teaching at NJC or NYGS will be the least of your worries, because you may find she refuses to go to school altogether, if transfer was not what she really wanted but something she submitted to because of parental pressure.

My view is let her take ownership of her choice, shut up and just give her all the support she wants and needs.

the A-level results standard is dropping, yet everybody so timid as a mouse, dare not bring this out to the attention of school management (authority) to discuss, ask yourself, what do u think will happen ?

Nothing will happen.
Status will stay the same, lor.

With no direct feedback coming in from any parent nor from any student, from Sec 1 all the way right up to JC2 during these six long years,
school management will just assume that everything is going on well ...

oh, well,
our NJC Teachers, HODs, VPs, all are doing their job great, etc. The students here are happily studying, there is nothing needed to improve upon, inside our JC. Everything Is just ... perfect.

So, what prevent parents / students from speaking up ? Timid ?

But,
for those parents / students who truly want to \"parnership\" with school management,
dare to speak up when the occasion arises,
to improve whatever situation they feel that need to improve / salvage / rescue upon,
these altruistic parents / students, at the end of the day, will lead the entire JC, to a better state.

I don't know whether is this the first time u hear of this word called \"PARTNERSHIP\".

Give u an Analogy.
We all know that love need 2 hands, to clap.
One person alone, cannot keep clapping hand, all the time. It doesn't work that way, because after some time, this single party will become very tired, will stop clapping hand.

Likewise, in a school setting (environment), the same thing happen.
For any school to make progress in a forward direction, the school management also need direct students & parents engagement / involvement / participation, as well.
If there is any problem, both parents and school can sit down together side by side, identify what is the root of the problem. Together, then discuss what possible alternatives to take, in order to resolve these problems.

To kick start,
u can go to reddit forum, read up, what are some of the problems encountered by students ?
Because in Reddit, the comments made come from the students directly themselves, studying in whichever JC they came from. So, are more relevant, since the comments come from these students' own heartbeat & soul.

Example

From what I read over in Reddit, I may be wrong, so I stand corrected, some students did mention about these \"virtual lectures\" system implementation, being used to teach students here. Not sure whether this method of teaching, is effective or not. As mentioned, I stand corrected, as there could be other reasons too, which perhaps could have caused the A level standard to drop ?
This is for those involved inside the \"PARTNERSHIP\" team, to go & find out the root cause(s).

these primary schools have very strong traditional Alumni roots.

No I don't consider that as heavy tuition. My child's friend, 6 tuition, 2 for chinese and english, 1 each for math and science. Now at IP school too.

I understand your anxiety and concern as a parent. If you no faith in the school, at least you must have some faith in your daughter? Unless of course her PSLE results was achieved through heavy tuition and lots of enrichment classes lah. If not, then at AL 5D? shows that your daughter is not to be mess around with Who knows, your daughter might bring back the glory to NJC and becomes a president scholar after so many years for NJC :xedfingers:

if u still do not hear from your VP (Academic), then u give VP a phone call. Tell her that, this is a follow up phone call, to that email which u have sent out 3 days ago. From there, your discussion with NJC continue ...

In the meantime,

You may want to check with the school or other parents if there will be level briefing for parents. The principal and other senior staffs will normally be present and there should be Q&A session for parents to raise any concerns too.

For the past few recent years,
Victoria JC has been fighting very hard, to stay afloat, within the Top 5 JCs.

hi, saw that NJC A level results only 82.1 (medium). seems like it is dropping evey year. at the rate it is dropping, it is gtg to be at the bottom of the mid tier JC very soon. am very worried as my gal is in JH1 this year. and saw many bad comments on reddit about the teachers and notes esp for Bio, PW and GP. am seriously hating my daughter's choice of school when she can get into RGS or NYGH with her psle results

Chances are you talk to a random girl in nygh/rgs, she will probably also have grouses about the standard of teaching of certain teachers, useless notes etc etc…

The very on ones if they meet with such dismal teaching May band together and compile their own better notes. So one way to stay above all these is to be friends with very “on” classmates. When they all feel lost, they will think of a way.
