That’s very encouraging!!!


This is the first time I follow the budget closely as I find it refreshing with some new ideas dished out.

Although some people are not happy with the closure of SA for those aged 55 and above in 2025, that doesn’t mean the G is doing the wrong thing. In fact, it should have been rationalized earlier. Overall, I am happy with DPM Wong’s slew of initiatives.

If your HDB is at Duxton Plains, easily rented out more than $5K per mth. 😂

I would think the AV is reasonable because landlords do e-stamping with IRAS so they should have all the rental data/records.

But I suspect the AV will lag the actual data by one year because property tax is paid in Dec for the following year.

AV is an estimate of your unit if it were to be rented out at unfurnished state.

If your neighbors rented out their units on an average of $3K per mth unfurnished state, then your estimated AV will be $3Kx12mths = $36K. For own stay, there maybe a discount, so your AV for own stay maybe below $36K.

It’s silly of IRAS to make a mistake in estimating the impact of the property tax change!

Last year, I attended some 2- days courses on Coffee Barista & ChatGPT. They were a lot of fun & I cld claim a small portion of fee fr UTAP. Cash in pocket for kopi. Some of my coursemates was too late to claim for UTAP, as they hv not applied for UTAP membership prior to attendance.

After CNY, I’m hoping to go for more courses for Wine tasting & AI. Just hv to find time for it this year. Hv not plan for it. Think after CNY activities. I can’t do those weekend classes as usually busy on weekends. Think these are good for those working on weekdays & can’t take leave for weekday courses. I find it so enjoyable learning abt diff coffee means & techniques, I don’t mind repeating (留班） lol 😝

Make it 1k per person per month for simplicity.
Once you are older, you will eat at home more, so your food expenditure will go down. And you probably won't need 3 full meals a day. My grocery expenditure is under $500 a month (4 pax) - but that doesn't include my girls and husband eating lunch outside about 3 times a week - so can add another $300? Even if you double that to $1600 per month for 4 pax, because we eat very simply, that's still a lot under $900 per person per month!

I revived a SkillsFuture thread - maybe we can share recommendations there! I've got friends coming over now, but will be looking into SF over the next few day (before I forget). Will share if I see anything interesting.

But our consumption will reduce as we age. I see our old folks don’t require to eat as much as before. Actually substantially less.
Maybe not so much as to eat out for 3 full meals. But will need to spend more on fresh fruits and vegetables.

The rich are complaining, but they won't complain too loudly because no-one will pity them! But according to what LW said yesterday, the govt was caught out because property values went up so much that the bands that they had drawn up became too low (i.e. affected more of the lower-value properties than they intended). Hence the raising of the bands for the following year.
If you look at property tax rate, in year 2015, it started off with 16% for the high end properties. But today it has gone up to 32%.

Newspapers reported the G expected the ppty tax changes to affect just 7% of the owner-occupiers but it ended up affecting 13% so next year they will do some adjustments but that 7% will still need to pay high ppty taxes!

For our own stay unit, our annual property tax went up by $100+ only! Whereas for a $5m-$6m and above landed, the jump is very significant, my guess is that they need to pay an estimated $30K a year. So for those planning to retire or already retired, do they want to pay so much for ppty taxes? This morning, DH and I spent $5 for breakfast at the market, that’s like $150 a month. So it will definitely pain us (as soon to be retirees) to pay a few Ks every month for ppty tax.

Alternatively u can look for those providers nearer to your work place. CC trainers are quite a mixed i guess. Our painting class teacher is a overseas art graduate and his method worked for me. Many never imagined my art works were by someone in non art related field. I saw my classmates did very good works too.

Really a case of time well spent.

I think it depends on the amount? If you are over a certain age (can't remember what it is now, maybe 40 or 50), there is extra subsidy. Then the rest comes out of your SkillsFuture money. I have not paid out of my pocket for the few courses I've taken.

Depends on the type of courses. If you are looking at those helping in your work, most require co-pay.

I took short course. Fully paid under SF. But it was before Covid.

I took acrylic painting intro course at NAFA. They have oil painting too. It was very therapeutic for me. Took me away from work stress. But i couldn't commit to next level which is unfortunately not covered under SF.
