<![CDATA[NTU vs SMU Business Degree]]>My daughter has received offers from both NTU and SMU for their Business degree programs, and we’re weighing the pros and cons of each. Would really appreciate any insights from current students, alumni, or parents who’ve been through a similar decision.

Her offers are:

NTU Business – with a scholarship and she has the option to stay in the hall for the first 2 years.

SMU Business – no scholarship, but it’s much closer to home and commuting would be convenient.

My daughter in same situation as yours. And she is accepting SMU offers.

When it comes to business , SMU provides better trainings than NTU. SMU adopts the US system whereas NUS/NTU adopt UK system. There are more well known US companies than UK’s and that speak volumn. SMU prepares their students to present well and that is important for business. SMU is a 4 years undergraduate program whereas NTU business is 3 years. Some may think 3 years can’t learn as much as a 4 yrs program. SMU location is near business district. Companies are more wiling to travel to SMU for networking than NTU. That gives SMU’s students networking advantages.

I feel building a good business skill foundation worth more than the scholarship amount, if finance is not an issue.

Is NTU seminar style or lecture/tutorial format? I believe SMU is the former.

Does she like continued class engagement, participation and group work and presentations? My impression is that the SMU curriculum is heavy on these aspects. Some people thrive on such opportunities - others prefer a balance of quiet self-learning and occasional group work / presentations.

Are finances an issue for the family?

Whatever it is, once the decision is made, don’t look back or wonder what if. Embrace the next stage of university.
