Any of your girls struggling with Math in Sec 1 G3? We were taken aback with how challenging the WA1 and WA2 papers were despite time duration of 45 mins. The questions were pitched higher than what was taught and teachers typically just briefed through the chapters.

According to their teacher, the failure rate is more than 60 percent in the class.

Perhaps you and your kid can check out this book, to see if the more challenging questions that came out in the WA are similar to the ones in this book.
Although the book says IP, I believe it still follows the usual school syllabus but has tier-ed questions (i.e. more challenging questions than usual). However there is only final answer at the back of the book and no worked solutions, so an alternative might be the \"Mentor Mathematics\" book.

This is so typical of what happens in my child’s secondary school (different school).

His teachers teach bare textbook content, then throw them one mock paper (sometimes via email the day before, with no answers) and that’s all. The responsibility then becomes the students/parents’ to go find their own resources.

just wondering if anyone in this thread (former student or parents with child) who formerly or are currently taking AEP. would love to hear your thoughts on the stress of AEP and how it impacts especially at upper secondary level. is it very rigorous that it takes up a lot of time for revision for the academic subjects. Coz o levels require you to take 8 papers?

They have caring teachers, who put welfare of their students at heart.


Not all missionary schools in Singapore are kind. Depend on who is the Principal heading the school and who are the VP and teachers in his (her) team. Very sad, to see some missionary schools don’t bother to walk the extra mile. But, very glad to see that CHIJ (Toa Payoh) Secondary truly has the well-being of her students at heart. The teachers are caring, here.

He teaches my daughter’s class A Maths. My daughter shared that he is always screaming at the class, and today he made one girl do a sum at the white board. When she couldn’t, he passed remarks that she couldn’t even do a sec one work and kept on screaming. The girl was so traumatised that she frozen and was left standing at the white board for 45 minutes.

Firstly, How are the students like in the Normal Academic stream? Is it full of bullies and misbehaving students? I’ve also read that since they have a primary school affiliated to it, many of the girls from the primary school are already close to each other and have their own friend groups. I’m afraid that as a new student ( who also has horrible social skills :slapshead: ) would have even more trouble blending in and making friends. Secondly, how is the Secondary 5 life? Just in case I don’t manage to make it into the Express stream, I hope that it will maintain it’s (allegedly) nice environment. Hope to get some replies soon! :thankyou:
