The triple test showed that DD fell into the high risk category. I remember going blank and then crying buckets after receiving the call from my Gynae’s nurse. She was not tactful at all. I was in a middle of a meeting with a client when I had a few missed calls. When I called back, the first thing she said was your triple test results shows positive for Downs so you need to come in as soon as possible for an amnio. When I met with my gynae his explanation put me more at ease. He said the odds are on my side as the result shows a 1 in 200 chance. He then explained the risks of amnio and his track records (no mishaps due to amnio). He did say more often then not, most amnios come back showing that the babies are normal. The decision whether to go for the procedure or not is ours and he will respect our decision. We opted for the procedure. But after the procedure, I ended up crying as well, to DH’s alarm. But the gynae was very reassuring, telling DH it is very normal as there will be fear and worry so it is good to just let it out. Amnio at that time takes at least 4 weeks to get a result so we were on tenterhooks for 1 whole month. On the 1 hand praying that we won’t get an earlier then expected call but on the other hand needing and answer.

For me, there was no real question about going for the amnio. I believe in knowing and being prepared rather then leaving things to chance.

Takes more effort to go for all these tests, leh. Going to see OB/GYN already a very *sian* thing for me. i would stretch my visits so that i see him only every 6 weeks or so.[/quote]
When I had my second boy, I was also at the age where the amnio test is recommended. Short and light means i prob only use one pad and that's it. Was a bit worried so I went to a Chinese Medicine Hall and ask if I should take something to 调理. Thought maybe I should take 白凤丸. When I descripe my conditions to the sales assistant, she told me i have to take the special 白凤丸, I asked why, she told me that based on my description, I'm most likely having menopause liao. I was so   ! Told her I'm mid thirties and I asked her if she has heard of anyone like that. She told me in straight and serious tone - yes, nowadays women are getting their menopause earlier and earlier. So its no surprise that you are having menopause... :!: :!: I was a bit alarmed, and immediately called my gynae to see him the next day. When I told the gynae my conditions and asked if I'm having my menopause, he :rotflmao: and assured me with tears in his eyes that I'm definately not having menopause. Just that the lining is thin and I may not be able to have kids anymore.

3 months later, I'm pregnant again...

Some sales people like to use \"scare tactics\".

Once I went for a facial, the staff said my skin looked very bad and asked if I had been ill. Her purpose was to make me sign up for the expensive package. I was so angry I never went back to that shop.

tamarind

Reply to Any Mommies in mid-late 30s or over 40 with small children ? on Sun, 04 Jul 2010 01:54:24 GMT

duriz:

tamarind:
I am also fine if children call me auntie.
