Different schools have different ways of interpreting MOE's curriculum guidelines to suit the needs of their students. So what can we do as parents to help our children make the best of STELLAR?

Firstly, make use of every opportunity you get to meet up with your child's teacher and learn as much as you can about the Holistic Assessments that your child is going through. This will give you a better idea of how your child is doing and more importantly how to help your child.

That being said, reading widely and regularly should be the bedrock of your child's learning. This will ensure success not only in English, but in Math and Science as well. However, reading alone will not be sufficient in our demanding education landscape. What is more important is helping your child make the connection between what he reads and his own experiences. You can model making connections simply by saying:
\"This reminds me of...\"
\"This character is like...\"
\"This situation is kind of like...\"

Schools practise writing in the form of the Modified Language Experience Approach whereby students write about their experiences. Parents can link children's reading as well as experiences such as family outings to a simple writing activity like journal writing or even drawing.

Hope these tips help!

Chitra Chua
English Language Educator

mceducation1

Reply to Q&A - P2 English on Wed, 22 Jul 2015 07:54:18 GMT

songeeling:
Smart parents out there, may I get some tips on stimulated based conversation?my daughther is pretty weak in this area...tq

This blog is by an English tutor, here you go:
http://www.lilbutmightyenglish.com/blog ... nversation

FantasyLandDreams

Reply to Q&A - P2 English on Wed, 22 Jul 2015 07:53:49 GMT

songeeling:
Smart parents out there, may I get some tips on stimulated based conversation?my daughther is pretty weak in this area...tq

This blog is by an English tutor, here you go:
http://www.lilbutmightyenglish.com/blog ... nversation

FantasyLandDreams

Reply to Q&A - P2 English on Wed, 22 Jul 2015 04:27:10 GMT

Smart parents out there, may I get some tips on stimulated based conversation?my daughther is pretty weak in this area…tq
