Just thought we should start a thread to exchange tips / resources/ideas /games on how to do some DIY brain training and at home. After all the $$$ brain training school we sign up for probably use quite a lot of the exsiting materials & know how out there.


Brain training:
1. Flash Cards
2. Memory train (I think Mind champs use a similar method.) Basically to show a series of unrelated pictures and tell a funny story for the kid till they remember the sequence of the images.
3. Photographic memory: Look at a picture for 2 seconds. After that hide away the picture and try to remember where the position of some of the items are.

Activities link with higher IQs
1. Reading
2. Sign Language for young kids
3. Music training/ listening to classical music for young kids

Exposing children to languages
1. Listening to stories in other languages
2. Listening to songs in other languages
3. Flash cards of languages

both ways.

New books, i will read to him first few times. Then i throw in some questions to him … so that it engages him… or even ask him to describe the pics in the books.

Not so new books, i get him to read to me instead. He can only recognise some words… but i reckon he memorised the contents… so he can " read"…

Sometimes when we are on bus or mrt, i will ask him abt the stories as well… juz something to get him to describe and comment.

I make flashcards of the key words in the some of his fav stories too. was hoping that it wil help him in word recognition : P

As to what we do… story books is a must. Flashcards also. I follow GD schedule. As for topis, i got many readers for preschool. So all can be used

Normally wat time u are back from work? Do you have a schedule or time table what should you teach/play/do with your ah boy?

Home practice is one of those bonding time that i share with my son.
We do reading… singing… and flashcards (key item)… and some fine motor skills stuff (subj to availability of creative juice from my old brain)

i do combination of Shichida practice and follow GD as well.
No longer attending shichida due to admin issue with the school though.
DIY at home is perfectly ok.

One way is to buy thick cards (250 gsm and above), print on normal paper and cut and paste on it. Of course, it’s less time consuming if you can just print straight on cards.
