I am a bit confused by the ballot results for 2023 ACSJ results. For 2B, does it mean there is no chance of balloting even for 1-2km?

How about 2C, it indicated >2km. Does it mean all the 1-2km doesnt require ballot?

I am staying 1-2km of ACSJ now thus i am torn if i should go through all the effort to shift nearer to within 1km or i can stay with current 1-2km?

BTW... the numbers are only published up to the 2nd last day of each Phase. The final numbers are published only after the balloting is done.

No it doesn't. Each Phase is totally independent of any previous Phase. It is all based on luck.

You won’t. We thought this year MOE might provide, but Phase 2A proved that nothing has changed.

I can comment on the popularity. Both schools will require balloting <1km in Phase 2C, but South View is about 4 to 5 times more popular than Chua Chu Kang. In fact, it has been the leader in terms of the number of parents balloting in Phase 2C. I would say you should choose Chua Chu Kang if you want less stress balloting in Phase 2C.

Neh, i pass by RGPS and SCGS some mornings, can easily count those 95 little kiddies walking to school. Some may be in the long line of cars queuing also.

Actually, it turns out not always the case leh...
Take for example, Ai Tong School (first name alphabetically on the perpetual Phase 2C ballot < 1km list).

Phase 2C
Vacancies: 42
Applicants: 86

Vacancies for ballot: 42
Balloting applicants: 68

I've no idea what the 18 applicants (20.9% of 86 applicants) were thinking of. Perhaps, they are not that 'on' and don't follow the balloting history that closely.

Similarly, for ACSP, it's 5 out of 69 applicants (7.2%) and for CHS, it's 15 out of 68 (22.1%). I guess one good thing that can come out of this data sharing is for people (especially those > 1km) to be more realistic about their chances in Phase 2C in some of the more popular schools and they can pick their option more wisely.

As said all along, not all schools will call up applicants greater than balloting distance. It largely depends on whether the school has the manpower and ability to do so (p/s: people should stop imaging that someone will alert them if there's balloting... hello, you are on your own). Also, do note that there's a \"cut off time\" for schools that do call to do so. If the staff login at 12pm and call up those presently in the system, those who register after 12pm would not have received any call. Thus, those > 1km who want to play the \"who dares win\" better be prepared for surprises especially in the last hour where < 1km could come flooding in if there's a good opening.

The other thing, not all schools are used to balloting < 1km, RGPS being a good example. Hence, applicants / school may not be as alert to this sort of things compared to the schools that always ballot < 1km. Furthermore, with 90 vacancies for a single gender, it may be fair to say balloting for Singapore Citizens < 1km is kinda unexpected. Imagine that, 95 girls born in 2016, bearing Singapore Citizenship, living within 1km of the least dense neighbourhood in Singapore!

The best thing is, they even provided the number of applicants actually involved in the balloting - in the past when say balloting within 1km, we only have the total number of applicants, but not the breakdown of how many are actually going through the balloting. The new update solves this mystery!

Taking RGPS as example, it is shown in MOE's website, for 2022 registration:

Balloting: Yes
Conducted for: Singapore Citizen children residing within 1km of the school.

If single child or only girls in the family, SCGS.

Otherwise, if you have both boys and girls, you will have to decide whether you can tahan the logistics of sending them to different schools. If can’t, PCPS.
