That is one way of having your child exposed to speaking English. We have tried to do that with our niece and it actually works

You may want to practice conversing in English at home so your child gets used to the language and becomes comfortable in using it outside the classroom. You may also want to play an active role in their enrichment classes, so you both learn and master English together.

In my 16 years of teaching English, I have taught at least 2000 pupils, from many schools like Catholic High, Anglican High, Nan Chiau High, Xin Min Sec, Ang Mo Kio Sec, Hougang Sec, Anderson Sec and even pupils living in Woodlands and Pasir Ris. I used be a English teacher in a Secondary school for many years before I set up my own centre to focus on my passion which is teaching.

I realise many pupils are weak in English because they don't read as much nowadays and thus they have limited vocabulary. Thus, I have developed a comprehensive programme which includes a vocabulary list of 10 words every week. I play games with my pupils to help them remember and use the words in their writing and comprehension. I also focus on skill mastery so I explicitly teach comprehension and writing skills. Many of my pupils don't know these skills as most school teachers 'test' rather than teach the pupils how to answer the questions. Simply giving the pupils the comprehension exercise without activating their prior knowledge or teaching them the techniques to answer the questions will not help them improve their comprehension skills.

Many of my pupils have learnt so many new words in my lessons, enabling them to write better and comprehend passages. I have taught many of them since they were in Pri school till they sat for their O-Level exam. You can read the testimonials that my pupils have written about my lessons by clicking on the link below. I have limited number of classes and some of them are full. If you want your child to love English, have a wide vocabulary and possess the skills to write and comprehend well, you can contact me at 98214603 or visit my website. http://www.Mckaylan.com for more information.
Have a great day!

http://mckaylan.com/blog/category/testimonials/

yellowbloom

Reply to All About Getting Help for Students Weak in English on Sat, 10 Jun 2017 01:16:53 GMT

Hi, has anyone attended this English tuition school http://www.olevelenglish.com before at Orchard plaza, is it GOOD ?

Please help and comment.

Thank you,

kaix

Reply to All About Getting Help for Students Weak in English on Thu, 08 Jun 2017 12:17:42 GMT

Hello! It takes patience to help children develop a love for reading and getting started is usually the hardest! It is important to devote yourself to read with the child for approximately half an hour to an hour daily. You can check out https://www.englishtutorpro.com to request for qualified and patient English tutors to do this on your behalf. From there we can find out what kind of challenges face the child; whether that is neurological, developmental or possibly environmental. A proper assessment will get to the root of your child’s difficulty.

After that, there are a few venues to travel down. One would consider the child’s metacognition related to sound processing in the brain. If a child has difficulty with understanding that the sounds of a word make that word, then they probably need to began fundamental training skills in phonology.
The second possibility may be that they have not mastered phonetics and so make too many errors which makes them lose confidence. From that point they would only fall further behind their peers. In that case a systematic approach to reading to develop their ability would be a good choice.
Lastly, they may not be comfortable or happy reading in front of others or they are no confident enough. At this juncture it’s about finding the right environment and teacher that makes the child feel comfortable and confident.
If the child can read, make sure they are attempting to readbooks that are suitable for them.(Not ones that just look good)
Finally, make sure the books have a balance between good imagery and word that relate to that imagery. This will help build their visual vocabulary and you should see much better progress.

We hope this has been helpful. If you have any other questions, please PM us.

Cheers,
I Know English Team
