Thank you in advance!

Wow 20+ years is a long time.

We had been using Rheem all the while. Recently mum's house (around 8 years old) had \"downpour\" in the middle of the night from the false ceiling. This went through the lights so that light point had to be replaced. We had to switch off the main water and electrical supply before help came. Coincidentally her neighbor had the same issue around the same time and water flowed to his bedroom too.... After our water leakage experience with Rheem, I doubt we will be getting Rheem in the future.

Unfortunately with the false ceiling design, the contractor had to cut off part of the false ceiling in order to be able to gain access to the heater to remove/ replace it. The opening was just too small.. heard it's quite a common issue for condos. It can however be patch back just that it'll be dusty and you will have to incur more costs.

The contractor happened to be my cousin and he advised mum to change to Joven. He said based on his experience, it's less likely to leak. No one can guarantee anything more 5 years these days as things don't seem to be build to last anymore.

The heater itself cost $300+. Unsure about contractor cost since my cousin don't charge my parents much and usually just the cost price. I think my mum's neighbor had a quote up to 1k to fix everything (including the false ceiling, etc..)

MMM

Reply to Anyone changed water heater(drum type) before? on Mon, 20 Jun 2016 04:40:37 GMT

My 20+ years horizontal drum type water heater has leaked. Ariston usually are replaced by Jovan if you don't want to replace by Ariston.

3. You will be asked whether your current tank is horizontal or vertical type coz Jovan has two different models to suit the space; so cannot anyhow buy coz the positions of the inlet/outlet are different.

4. Jovan 25 litre is about $245 and 35 litre is about $265, excl installation.

5. Recommend you my regular place to buy cheap heater / fans:

Eng Soon Huat Hardware Merchant
140 Jalan Besar
Singapore 208858
Tel: 6294-0815

6. They don't install but can recommend you people who install. Price reasonable.

Hope it helps!

PS: Generally if your Ariston is very old model type, may have to redo a bit of piping to accommodate the new model.

Thanks insider, that is alot of good info.
