a lot of people, i believe, is ok paying good price for good teachers and environment.

but paying unreasonable high price because the rental is high is hard to acccept.

While I can totally accept private landlords to be 'greedy' since they are entitled to their yield of returns, I cannot accept government to tender out their premises meant for social responsibility at such ridiculously high prices...They jolly well should know 羊毛出在羊身上 and ultimately parents have to pay through their noses...

Yes! If the premises belongs to HDB, I feel that the rental should be NOMINAL so that operators can keep costs down for parents. For commercial spaces, we can't do much about the rental.

And if the property keeps going up, the greedy landlord will keep the rental going up…

and if the rental going up, the fee will go up…
and if the fee go up, inflation will go up…
and if the inflation go up, teacher will demand higher pay…

yah i think MOE/MCYS should step in to regulate.

the preferred end state should be like pri sch.

where teachers are paid decently (at least $2000+) and trained at a central institute (e.g. NIE, or at least a few certified training centres), and fees are subsidised such that they are kept at a reasonable level.

Pri sch fees compared to childcare fees are just toooo far apart!

Even though childcare is quite different compared to pri sch and has longer hours, surely with appropriate subsidies from govt it can be kept to $300-400 per child for the best quality centres? Even independent sec school fees don’t cost more than that per month right?

If they want mums to work, then the whole childcare framework needs to be re-scoped.

punish them for been greedy?

average singaporean earned $2k per person, combine household $4. After CPF, $3.2k. No choice need to send to CC instead of PCF due to working long hour.

1. After dedut transport $300, bill electricity ($150), insurance charges ($500), misc charges like meal $500. left around $1.7k.

Assume 1 kid. The parent need to spend $1k on CC plus enrichment, milk powder.

Left less than 1k on saving per household.

Imagine you have 2 kids, spend $2k on childcare plus enrichment, how to survive? This is ridiculous.

How to have 2 kids when 1 kid already has problem provide them the basic need.

Something need to be done…

Forgot to mention, they helped me to start off with potty training for my boy

As they said that he could verbalise his needs well at 18mths, they decided to start him on potty training at 20mths. And they persevered until he was fully toilet trained

And they briefed my maid on what they did so that we can do the same at home with him (bring him to toilet every 20minutes, etc).
With the consistent training from school and home, my boy was off diapers rather quickly (save $$).

Now he's turning 4yo and he does not even wear diapers at night. So far we've only had 3 accidents.

Why I chose them:
1. Convenient (near my mum's place)
2. Cheap
3. The principal and teachers are very loving! And they know all the kids by name. The principal makes the effort to have lunch with the kids everyday (unless she is very busy).
4. Curriculum is not bad (as in they do alot of storytelling, hands on learning, excursions). My boy picked up alot of his fine motor skills from the activities they did in PCS.
5. Kept me very well updated with regards to events and how my boy was doing in class. I am a FTWM, sometimes I work late and my maid picks my boy so I don't get to see the teacher. She will either write me a note in the comm book or she will SMS me. Also, they have a progress file for each student. Every fortnight, they will bring it home for us to sign. Inside, it will contain the lesson plans which they completed (it states the themes and skills learnt) plus, they include PHOTOS of the kids in action!

Compared to leaving him alone at home with the maid, PCS was a cheap and good alternative for him to have some social interaction and learn something (instead of sit at home and watch TV the whole day).

And they welcome parents or caretakes on excursions. We've been to numerous excursions with my boy and we loved it!

He was with PCS from 18mths till 35mths.

Why we decided to change to kindy (not CC):
1. Their belief is that writing only starts at 4yo, my boy could write A-Z, a-z and 0-10 when he was 2.5yo. So I felt that I needed a kindy which focuses more on academics. And my decision is right, my boy loved the challenging curriculum (at least he was not bored and disturbing the class like he was at PCS).
2. Changed teacher and the new teacher is rather inexperienced, can't seem to handle some new students who were crying due to seperation anxiety. After I gave feedback to the P, she hired another teacher but we had already registered my boy in a kindy by then.
3. There was a new student who kept picking on my boy (bites my boy until bleed). And the parents don't care after many complaints. The principal changed my boy's class to the older kid's class but that boy still runs over just to bite my boy. Argh. The teachers were on high alert by holding the boy's hand all the time but he still manages to run off sometimes. Had to teach my boy to defend himself! But this is not the school's fault.

I’ve seen a few PCS branches and i like the infant environment.

The teachers are also quite nice and like the way they discipline the kids.
Don’t expect it to be super good as in curriculum and all as they are just a non-profit organisation and as you know the fees are so low…

All fees quoted are before working mother subsidy is applied ($300).

Feel free to add on to this list / amend if you are sure of the more updated figures. These are those I’ve heard of within the past two years.

The parents are indirectly paying for the high rental which the operator has to pay to the Govt.
Better to put your children in some of the established CCs in tanjong pagar or shenton way area, where the fees are not so expensive... MMI @shenton is $995... almost $300 difference!
