Does anyone know much about the Edusave Scholarship Award for P5/P6? E.g., how do we know if our kid belongs to which category, Top 5% or 10% and if it of any value to DSA application?

We were talking abt the Yearly ESIS. So if you mean sec 1 2023 to be awarded Yearly ESIS in their sec 2 year, it should be based on their sec 1 results. And won’t be related to their 2022 psle results. And if you are already a recipient of ESIS (sec 1), you shouldn’t be eligible for ESIS Yearly

Because the basis of ESIS in the MOE website definition, seems to be for top academic students who attend independent schools regardless of stream. For ESIS sec 1, this is based on psle, so an AL5 who chooses to attend SJI O level will get it, and an AL 7 who attends SJI IP will not get it.

Comparing with ES for govt and govt aided schools, the MOE website says “top 10% in the school level and course”, but the ESIS (yearly) one is written as “top 10% in school cohort”. If there is a distinction, they could have written it the same way.

for us, sec 3 ESIS seems to be open to all who are not already ESIS recipient

not exactly sure how the test will be
but they say its an IQ test.. like GEP screening test
so we didnt prepare

Hi, DD received the cert of learning achievement (from moe) early of Dec 23. As we exceed the income ceiling, we did not proceed with the application. However my friend shared with me today that we may still be awarded book voucher from CC. May i know if we need to apply for that? Or the CC will automatically award us? Thanks.

Share about my experience. Even though household's income exceed than ceiling, have to submit the form at CC. So, CC can arrange the awards for students. I did not submit the form last year, my child did not get the invitaion for award ceremony. When checked with CC, must submit the form. FYI

SJI. For Year 1, both tracks indeed take the same paper. May be different from Year 2, that I don't know.

If this is so, the yearly award is more stringent then, harder then sec 3 award.
It is really just a guess from how the definitions are written on the moe website.

Esis sec 3, requires the sec 2 child to be nominated and the sec 2 child to take a test, and then the award is from sec 3 onwards.
Esis yearly, is given to the sec 1 child for his sec 2 year (sec 2 child for his sec 3 year, and so on), based on his school exam results, no additional selection and no additional tests.

They are just different. So I guess maybe if the esis yearly is indeed mixing up the O and IP, then the school can nominate the O student for the esis sec 3.

To clarify :-

In reality, what happened inside these dual-track schools, at Secondary 4, Is this scenario, below.

Example

1) for IP track students, inside dual track schools -


Year 4 IP students do practise O-level papers for (Maths & Science), after all.

Purpose ? Why ?

So as to practise as \"mock\" papers, inside their classroom. But take note. These serve only as \"mock\" practice O-level papers, and for certain subjects only. Not for all subjects.

Example
=======

say, for Chemistry,
if current year is 2023,
then

IP students will practise the previous few years. That is, practise O-level PRELIM Chemistry papers (2022 + 2021), but only as \"mock up\" Practice papers.

However,
in their actual Year 4 EOY IP exam in October / November, then they need only to sit for their own IP papers, whereby

they are assessed only
for their IP examination content, whether they can meet the Promotional pass grade to go (move) up into their Year 5 Affliated Junior College, or not.

If the IP pupil fail in any EOY Year 4 subject, then IP students will have a 2nd chance, to re-sit for that particular subject failed in. If still fail after tried 2nd attempt, Principal will see you. Also depend on which type of subject, u failed in.

Note

At EOY,
IP students no need to take any O-level paper, except for Higher Chinese.

Why no need ?

Because
IP students definitely no need to sit for the O-level National exam in so many subjects, since L1R5 doesn't apply to them. They only need to sit for Higher Chinese (O-level), one subject only.


EOY : End of Year Assessment,
held in Oct / Nov, every year


2) for O-level track, inside dual track schools.

Yes, the same thing happen.

While preparing for actual O-level, the O-level track students will also practise IP exam papers, as a \"mock up\" Practice.

O level track students will also practise the most recent last few years of IP (2022 + 2021 + 2020 ) Prelim exam papers for IP Chemistry, to practise as \"mock\" papers. Their class Chemistry teacher
will issue them this stack of homework exercise, during lessons proper. All this are part of preparing them, for the actual O-level.

This way,

both two curriculum track are fully aware of what's going on, or what have been tested, in each other's curriculum. But they practise each other's papers, as only a \"mock up\". That's all.

One thing have to point out is -
only certain key important subjects, then go and practise each other's curriculum Prelim papers for most recent past few years, as a \"mock up\". Usually, the Pure Sciences like (Physics, Chemistry Biology, Maths), Yes. But we don't do it, for all subjects.

IP and OP take same exam papers for ALL subjects? How did you verify that?

For Chinese, it is possible that IP and OP take the same paper but for other subjects, the scope is not the same to begin with.

By stream.
Not necessary, they take different subjects and exam format is different, some students may struggle to adjust. They take different exam paper. Like HCL paper vs CL paper.

Thanks for sharing the comment. I actually read that before posting as I was a little confused. If we didn't submit any application, how would they know that we had exceeded or meet the income ceiling?
Does this mean that if we didn't submit an application, the child would automatically be awarded a \"merit award\" instead of a bursary?
Based on my past experience and for my CC, you will be given the form for Bursary. If you qualify, then submit the form. If you don't qualify, don't submit. Those don't qualify, later the CC will send a separate mail to attend the \"Merit award\" ceremony. The CC will have the list I believe.
For my CC, they clear all the MOE-funded awards (Scholarship, GPA, Bursary, EAGLES, CHAR) first, which is done Dec/Jan period. Then once these are done, they will conduct the ceremony for the \"Merit award\" which could be months later.
Not sure if it's the same for the rest of the GRCs.
