Any idea when would the registration starts for the P1 Registration 2009?
Only MOE would have the answers? If for those who have completed the PV is it just have to wait then attack? :?

I am still in the midst of trying to \"convert\" my husband. He is not for moving since he thinks that all pri sch are the same. My parents who are pri sch teachers think otherwise. They feel that in their experience the better teachers (e.g. trainee teachers who perform very well) are channelled to GEP / SAP schools.

My SIL who just went thru a balloting session in Nan Hua told me that it was so stressful and nerve-wrecking that she cried during the process. My ex-colleague wrote to Fairfield for PV and was rejected. Maybe I am very risk-averse. I would prefer to move closer to our \"old\" schools St. Nicholas and Catholic High and register under Phase 2A2 which, as schellen said - \"sure get in\". The difficulty is convincing my husband to move.

But I am really grateful for this forum which provides me with a wealth of information and perspective on this subject. Thanks to all parents who replied and shared their views. 😄

yes, I'm a kiasu mum who is in the midst of doing it. My husband is now a convert after I told him the story about how 'mengmu' moved 3 times for her son. Guess I take it as an investment for my children's future. Btw, I got a ppty next to Nanhua but I m giving up on phase 2c since the balloting history was bad. they also rejected me for pv too, so no choice....

If you're aiming for Phases 2A1 or 2A2, then it will be feasible cos so far, I've not seen any balloting for phases before 2B.

However, Nan Hua is a very popular school so property prices around it will be much higher. This is also partly becos the residences closest to Nan Hua are condominiums, landed property and maisonette. Clementi is also a matured estate so resale flats are not cheap.

Correction. There were 94 applicants within 1 km, including two pairs of twins. vying for 65 places in Radin Mas.

thanks for the update. didn't know the no. was that high. think highest record is still st hilda ? 150+ applicants fighting for 40+ places for <1km. must be very stressed...

Think you shld go study the figures and balloting history of your choice school, then plan your strategy. If by doing PV can highly secure a place for your child in the school, then you can consider to do so rather than risk your chances under Phase 2C.

You can try PV, it would appear that if you were in 2B for either school you would have been relatively safe. But no guarantee you can get selected though.

I nearly did that but my former Pri school in CCK and both my parents and in-laws stay in North-East. As I still need my parents to look after my two younger children, the daily traveling between CCK & Sengkang may be too much for both myself and my children to take. So had to give up the idea...

yes, that’s a estimated figure given by the office. think it’s due to the location

ballot will only occur if the applicant no. exceed the vacancy no.
priority will goes to those <1km. if there’s not enough places, ballot will occur at this stage. if there’s enough, all the <1km will get a place.

the remaining places will be given to those 1-2km. same here, if enough places, all will get in. if not, ballot will occur at this stage.

for st marg, those <2km adds up to abt 66, so there’s ballot for those >2km, which 5 will be balloted out.

Yes, I'm >2km. When is your child's registration? If time permit, you can actually do PV (not sure whether St Marg accept PV ornot) in order tol know better about school culture. I'm a lazy mum so didn't do PV at any school 🙂

Because of the location and not many houses around so usually there is vacancy for >2km base on history statistics.


Thanks for the information abt the orientation, I've received the return COPY application form with indication of the orientation day on Friday.

yes, i'm more than 2km away. but can't afford to risk balloting

my understanding it's that there's not much residental within 2km. majority comes from phase 1 & church, hence great chance of getting into the school. the last round i ask has 50% for those living less than 2km for phase 2c alone.

moreover, there's in house student care , hence u just need to worry abt the transport (school bus or car although there's a long staircase which leads to plaza singapura)

No worries, a letter will be sent to home address with the orientation date.
It's actually another copy of the same registration form that was filled out, but with the bottom part signed by principal and some info added in.

I had a very frustrating and disappointing experience at St Margarets Primary just now. Of the schools that I called, they were the only ones who refused to give me the number of exact places left. When I turned up personally, they still refused to give me the figures. The lady even said, \" You just have to register and wait. We dont have the figures.\" Therefore, I didnt want to take the risk and so didnt withdraw from Keming ( Registered at 2.30pm today. All the 93<1km got in and I am one of them. 1-2km balloting ) At 4.30pm, the lady at St Margs announced that 73 will ballot for 79 places! I am truly very upset over this incident. I would have withdrawn from Keming and tried balloting at SMPS if they had told me at least a rough figure. Was willing to let go of keming and try if balloting at SMPS not so risky. I dont understand why they didnt want to say. Should I check with MOE if what they did was right? I was calling them many times from 12pm and their answer was the same. ( \"This is the general office and We dont know anything because the registration is taking place in the hall\" ) What kind of an answer is that? The general office has no updates? I spoke to a fellow mum who was there waiting to hear if there'll be balloting and she said some walked out because they refused to tell the numbers. Anyone there who had similar experience?

My initially choice was st marg & was there for the last 2 days personally. If not for this \"I don't know\" comment which makes me worried (especially that Indian admin staff)... Can't risk to go thro' ballot.

I was very frustrated as well cos i even asked them how many applications they got for since 2pm on last day - but still \"don't know\" attitude). We had no choice but left at 3.30pm to rush to another school to register based on the actual situation.

They just simply can't understand how parents feel during that \"very crucial moment\".

Was disappointed can't register my girl into st marg.
