<![CDATA[Ballet vs Chinese dance]]>:?:


I'm thinking of starting my DD on a dance class, but am undecided between ballet or Chinese dance, or both!

I hear that ballet provides a good dance foundation.
Chinese dance is also good for developing grace and might be good for future DSA application. :lol:
Doing both dances however might be taxing if and when she gets to the advanced levels in future. 😞

Hope to gather some feedback on the pros and cons of each...

My Gal Wants to Do Every Class tt I happen to show her when she's in the Kindy too! Think she tried at Least 7 other diff classes besides dance class πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

But it's good to give them the exposure, then let them decide what they want to pursue \"Long\" term when they R in lower Pri.

Nafa have Public Performance every 2 years. Participation is Optional. For gals in both Ballet and Chinese dance, they Gotta Choose which one they want to perform in. Rehersals can be taxing, taking up 5 to 10 days of each sch term hols for more than 1 year.

I'm Not Familiar with DES, but did read some prev discussions by other parents in this forum on what u r enquiring. Best tt U consult them on DES.

As for Nafa, it's good to join them young, esp for chinese dance. They have a structured teaching which I find is good for the kids. And I think for Chinese Dance, they could be among the best in Spore.

But of course there's no problem to join them later. For older gals, they will let the kids audition to see which grade they could best fit in.
A number of my Gal's Dance mates join NAFA in P4 to P6.

Yes. She did Ballet at CC till Grade 1 Exam. After tt transfer to NAFA. Did Ballet for 1 yr+, and due to clash in schedules, got to choose bet Chinese Dance and Ballet - And she prefers Chinese Dance ....

For Ballet, In My Gal's time, NAFA issue their own cert, and No Exam.
By Popular Demand / Request, Recently NAFA has extra prep class for those Gals who wish to take Ext Exam. But No NAFA Exam for Ballet.

For Chinese Dance, The Gals Take Exam on Alternate Years for Grade 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13(Max). Examiners R Flown in from Beijing Dance Academy.

My Gal started Chinese Dance at NAFA in 2nd Semester of her K1.
Took her Grade 8 in P5 last year (there is a min Age for taking the graded exam). Now finishing her grade 9, and will be taking Grade 10 Exam Next year.

Since NAFA Chinese Dance Class is only once a week (2 hr session), and hers is on Sunday, she has been attending it thru All her P1 to P6 years. And She intends to continue thru her Sec Sch years till she completes the Grade 13 exam.

After Grade 13, the next level will be Diploma - Full Time. πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

She's the 2nd Competitor in the Event - with Ball Routine.
Her Competition will last till ~1pm+.
Since Got 4 routines to Do - Ball, Rope, Hoop, Freehand.

And Yes My Gal is Competing, Though Alone in her Division B Stage 2.
Doing 4 Routines : Free Hand, Rope, Ball, Hoop.
Very Tough Competition as she's just been Learning these Routines for ~ 6 mths, But Competing Against at Least 3 National Team Gals who has been Past 2 years Winners in these Routines.

Definitely this Mummy will Be there to Cheer Her On!
Pom-Pom .... Errrrrrrr .... Afraid I'm Too Over-Aged, Too Over-weight, Too Out-of-Shape for It .... Ha HA ....

However, that was partly due to my reluctance to stop training when I was injured, so not every injury will end up to last as long.

For RG, Since ALL Floor Exercises, Less Prone to Injury.
Only thing I Can Think of is when the Gals Over-stretched their Muscles, Or Back due to Non-Readiness for some of the Movements Requiring High Degree of Flexibility.

AG Generally is More Taxing, as It Involves A Lot More Flips, Summersalts, etc and at Heights above Ground, as well.
Exercises on Balance Beam, UnEven Bars, or even to a Certain Extent Vaulting Posed its own inherent Risk in Falling.

Both AG And RG Requires High Degree and Precision of Movement and Technics, albeit with different Focus.
Generally for AG, It requires different sets of Balancing work on different equipment.
As compared to RG, it is the different technics of handling the RG equipment while performing on the Floor.

So I Would Say that the Suitability of which type of Gym largely depends on the Gals. Some R Better at AG, And Others Perform Better at RG.
Both Have their Fair Share of Difficulty.
