For german, the germans can mostly speak english so you do not have to learn german.


This is just my opinion based on one friend's experience. Anyways, I love the sound of french as well, sounds very 'high-class' :lol:

Plus getting by outside Paris can be frustrating if you speak only English, whreas in Germany it didn't pose any problem for me. Plus it will be useful if you ever go to northern part of africa if you can't speak arabic.

We lived in South East Asia. Our immediate neighbour to the north of about 27 million people speaks malay. Our neighbour Indonesia comprising of 230 million speaks malay too. In singapore, we have about 10% of malay.

for practical purpose, we chose malay.

The school also provides annual trip to the region to understand the culture our SEA.

He keeps saying he want to learn Latin..siao :siao:[/quote]I think its too far ahead to consider which country your child may be pursuing post-graduate education, which to me, is the only real practical advantage of taking a third language at secondary school level. It could conceivably be France, Germany or Japan, I suppose, where there are strong scientific institutes.

That is not to say that there is no value in taking a third language, which is why I say to take for fun. There is plenty to be gained in reading texts from a different culture other than English, so Latin isn't actually so far fetched!

Malay is popular with Aussie Agriculture experts who work in Indonesia. Is that what you want.....?

Thinking more of practicality. To pass as 3rd language + since we are surrounded by so many Malay speaking countries - good to know the language.

+ when you get a maid in the future (if indonesian) can communicate with her easier!
