<![CDATA[Science Guide Books]]>Dear parents.. any suggestions / recommendations on what series of science guide books to buy ? I was @ Popular and am overwhelmed by the large range... thinking of doing some HW myself before I really make any purchases..

based on last year 2019 PSLE Science paper, Section B Open-ended questions tested P6 students on the \"Application\" of scientific concepts taught, from P3 to P6 MOE syllabus scope coverage .

You may get your child to buy the latest copy of \"2019-2017\" PSLE Science booklet, from school bookshop, at $1 sold per copy without Answer key. Flip inside to 2019 Section B OE questions, to verify. Nothing to do with Secondary Science syllabus.

Not true. I have taught Science at primary school level and the PSLE papers don't require knowledge of secondary school topics. The PSLE \"trend\" is towards more application-based questions, meaning students need to be able to apply the concepts they have learned to new scenarios. For example, they may show a picture of steamed buns/baos in a styrofoam box and ask why is it that the buns get soggy after a while, and the student is supposed to use what they have learned about condensation of water to answer the question. This is why rote memorisation of facts will not be able to help a child do well in the exam - the child really has to understand the concept in order to apply it to other scenarios.

My P5 didnā€™t do so well for section B . His concept is sound , but the answering technique is raw and often answers were deemed ā€œincompleteā€ and hence lost a lot of marks in section B .

He doesnā€™t want tuition so Iā€™m looking for books with ā€œcompleteā€ answers Psle markers are looking for . Please recommend .

The author, Jason Lim (M. Sc.) has taught students in both the GEP and mainstream schools. As such, he is able to design challenging questions to help students prepare and score in their PSLE exams.

I bought this one for my daughter this year and they have a summary online for all the concepts of each topic. They have been good as an overview in helping me to check my daughter's progress. Hope this helps!

Also we would like to ask which one is most challenging, if the child is going for enrichment already. Time is limited for P6 students.

between EPH \"Ultimate Science Guide\" vs. orange coloured Marshall Cavendish \" PSLE Science Revision Guide\" , which u find better ?

One way u can find out is, based on your son's most recent 2019 P5 CA1 paper : out of his Total number wrong MCQs answered, for each of his mistakes, get him to read up those chapters (Topics) from these 2 books, determine which is the one, that can help him to reduce his number of MCQs, substantially.

Repeat the same, with his P5 CA1 Open-ended mistakes. Then, u know which is the \"MUST\" read book
