<![CDATA[Zoophonics]]>Hi mummies


Recentlt I have very bad experience with this enrichment center.
My gal had been going for the parents-accompanies prog for 6 mths and enjoyed it. So we decided to let her try independent prog for tods. It went so well for first few lessons. My gal didn’t cry as she was so familiar with the place and songs and play. But after 4th lessons, she started showing fear n withdrawl. Thinking it was separation anxiety. I did not react. But she started showing fear even to her favourite teacher at juliaL Gabriel when we bring her for her Sat edu drama class! As a mother, I sense that something is amiss. So i took the Fri off and accompanied my child. To my shock, the indian teacher is so loud and unprofessional. She used a reprimanding tone to shout at the kids and she used the same tone when she talked to me and other parents! She even left the bunch of kids unattended when she came out to photopy her teaching material!!!
Feeling "guilty" of being witnessed by me, the teacher kicked a big fuss of not allowing parents to wait within the aschool premise.
Now the worst is when I tried to feedback to the Principal, she did not bother to call me ro reply my email!!! And she went straight to the teacher and told her taht the mother of so so compalined about her!! And the Principal started setting this Golden Rule that no adult is allowed to wait for their kids within the office!!!
On that day, my 2.5 years-old gal came back with red cheeks. I wondered if that loud and fierce indian teacher pinched her cheeks!!! I stopped my gal from going back. GUess what, the Principal and teacher did not even bother to do any follow up!!! And the Prinicipal even took pictures of my gal to "proof" that my gal did smile and enjoyed her lessons!! And guess what these pcitures were never sent to me!! Guess they are taken to safe guard themselves just in case I surface this issue to MCYS.
Now i have to start looking for another school for my gal.
As a mother and and an educator myelf, I hope that preschool teachers can be more loving and provide our child a good start in school experience. It saddens me to see young kids fearing school or teacher. They still have a long way to go. Hope we can be the wtachdog and single out irresponsible teachers and preschools who are only keen in earning money.

If your child is not cooperative, they would not hesitate to ask you to change another school, so as to keep their record "clean".

My Son is with safari house @ Woodlands 11 from May 2018. Have a couple of bumps (normal as boys are more active) and 2 incidents (not surprisingly that teacher is not around when incident happened). Pretty disappointed with the school as no corrective action was in written incident report.

Many times accidents happen in class because the Teachers were not there to Supervise. Many issues, when called the school no one is free to manage or want to be in charge

When my brother was in the school, not all teachers are local. There are China teacher who will teach Chinese. There was also a Filipino teacher.
They usually have school holiday programs not sure if it's the case now

Hi my boys attended zoophonics from Jurong west branch. There is no glass walls for the classroom.
Don't worry about your boy..he will get past the initial stage.

3 years ago when my kid left, they hired a lot of Filipino and Indians at siglap branch. And some have an accent when they speak. Not sure about situation there now.

Just to give some feedback on Zoophonics Tampines Mart branch.
I was lucky to have had a different experience from some parents here.

My brother started to attend Zoophonics Kindergarten @ Tampines Mart in 2013 (N2).
We were impressed w the progress he made in school.
Despite having no prior exposure to phonics, he picked it up really fast and it helps in his spelling.
Initially we felt that he might feel stress studying there as the lady did mention to us that they prepare the kids in advance
(eg. K1 doing K2 work. K2 doing P1 work).
and the fact that he used to cry alot in his previous school despite it having many toys to play w and outdoor activities
(Definitely no problems w teachers and friends)

But surprisingly, he enjoyed his time @ zoophonics!
The teachers were very patient w him.
And their holiday programmes (for the kindergarten kids not sure about the others) are really fun for the kids.
He is graduating from there this year, and is telling me that primary school will not be as fun.

The only problem we had was that he once had a filipino teacher and he couldn’t understand her.

I spoke to the receptionist and she told me this is a common problem but they will pass through this phase. I am not sure if I should continue with Zoophonics or bring her to I can Read to trial.

It takes a while for mine to know how to \"blend\". He could get the individual letters right but got confused and frustrated when he had to blend them together. Most of the time, he got it right by memorizing. I am no phonics expert so I wouldnt want to teach the wrong stuff. What I did was to introduce him high frequency word myself via flashcard (eg can, do, not, am, he, she, you, and etc) and intro him simple readers while the sch (not zoophonics - he used to be from zoophonics) continues teaching him phonics. He started to get into blending this year when he reaches 5 yrs old as he reads along with me. He is able to blend longer words now eg \"catch, plan, looking, together etc\". I guess once he gets most of the high frequency words out of the way, he enjoys reading better and more willing to break down longer words and blend them.

english teacher:
- sings out of tune most of the time
- instructs my son who is barely 2 to sit down all the time
- doesnt gives me the feeling that she enjoys teaching. most of the time, it just seems like she is going through the ‘routine’

chinese teacher:
- so soft spoken, none of the children can hear her when she starts singing
- bad classroom management

there are only maximum 6 children in the class. both teachers dont give me very good vibes and dont seem to be passionate about teaching.

DS attends kindermusic with Shauna and the way she conducts classes is soooooo different! she truly enjoys the interaction with children and her lessons are always very engaging.

we might continue until end of this year and see how he progresses. if not much improvement, i will pull him and look for other phonics classes.
