I standardize the format of writing and make it into a exercise to revise all the words in the primary 5 and 6 textbook daily. In 3 months time One can complete the 500-600 words in p5 to p6 and I let the pupil read any 3 pages daily after that testing a few times to make sure they follow through the daily reading.


After 6 months, they response that their comprehension improved due to better understanding of the words and composition misspelling are greatly reduced improving their compo marks too. The improvement in their vocabulary after making the 3 months of notes and the constant revision till PSLE have helped all of them at least PASS their PSLE Chinese.

Hi Pokemon2011, for Pri sch there's no differentiation between CL and HCL for Oral component - i.e. all students only take CL oral.

You may wish to check out these books. I think they are better than those general ones that are sold at Popular bookstores:

For HCL, it is (even more) important to know how to write the chinese characters.

I was happily surprised that my boy actually managed to do well (42/50) for his recent test even when he is attending group tuition, also considering he just barely passed his exams last year. Her class size is not too big (4 students) but was very engaging as it has almost like a classroom setting where all students are engaged on different parts of the syllabus like comprehension and essay writing. From this experience, realized that my boy actually does better in a group tuition setting. If any of you are interested for group tuition, you can check with Jenny at 8186 3972. Believe she does 1-1 tuition too though believe it is in the north east area. For any of you parents out there living around or in the North east you can try contacting her!

The 'new 2019 MOE Primary 5 syllabus' mylulaoshi mentioned is in reference to the text book.

2018's Pri 5 students is the last batch using γ€Šε°ε­¦εŽζ–‡γ€‹ textbook. Next year's Pri 5 students will be using γ€Šζ¬’δΉδΌ™δΌ΄γ€‹ series instead (which is why you may have noticed book stores trying to clear off Pri 5 & 6 assessment books based on the 'old' syllabus - as well as the lack/unavailability of Pri 5 CL assessments on shelves at the moment).

What is your definition of 'interesting teaching method'? As in no 'chalk and talk' is it? Powerpoint counted? App counted? For interest cultivation, I would recommend Berries for younger kids. At Pri 5, we usually get quite serious preparing for PSLE next year, privately hard to find time to conduct group work/activites, unlike school teachers.
