My ds is in P1, but could find thread for P1 English.
Just to share what he did wrong in his term 1 test.
So far, 2 marks were deduct on the following points:

1. He must put all the books _______ the shelves.
The answer is \"on\" but he chose \"into\".

2. Show and tell
Have checked with him why he did not score full marks.
He said the teacher asked him a very difficult question,
ie. why did your father buy you the toy, and he didn't know how to answer.

Hi gurus, my 6 yo is currently attending I Can Read and and attending there for more than 2 years. Basically I think her reading ability is fair for her age but just wondering what other English enrichment schools options to consider especially to better prepare her for the rigours of primary school, such as writing.

Disclaimer - I generally feel that there is too much reliance on enrichment classes.

If your child is reading fairly well, then just keep her reading - bring her to the library or just get her lots of books to read. Talk to her about what she reads - understanding and processing what she reads is the best preparation for school. Get her to read aloud some of the time to practise pronunciation and speech rhythms.

For writing, get her to use writing in \"real world\" - writing lists, greeting cards, notes, journals, stories etc. Just a sentence or 2 to start with, and it will grow. Don't kill her interest by requiring compo-style writing from the word go - she will get enough of that in school.

Any good English enrichment to recommend for DD? She is turning 6 this year and gg to P1 next year !

DD can read very well, she can do simple comprehension without assistance, and in her kindergarten she is taught to write stories independently based on pics.

I would like to provide more support for English as she progress to P1.

Depends on what you want - LP (according to fren) follows the school syllabus closely, compo practice not so frequent but all EL components are covered; TWC writes a compo every week (or 2, can't say for sure cos the receptionist couldn't determine whether they include draft 2 when they say every week...) & that's their focus, comprehension revolves around their model compo. You may wanna visit them all & compare materials?

TWC is good for those kids who don't read books or have few writing practices in school.

You basically pay money to force your kid to cough out 1 compo every week, i.e. a total of 50 compos by end of P1. The compo guiding words come from a simple Compre passage (or Cloze sometimes, if I rem correctly) that will be applicable for that week's Compo topic. The guiding words are also that week's Spelling words. All compos come with a detailed feedback paper by teacher. After draft 1, student must write draft 2 as correction.

This kind of weekly workload is still ok for P1-2. Not so ok when kid has more school homework, other enrichments and the additional Science subject in P3. It'll be worse if your kid has Chinese enrichment which forces kid to write/redraft compo every week, plus tingxie/moxie every week.

TWC compo themes are slightly diff from those tested in school. Maybe cos the founder was from Australia, so the themes are more interesting/less MOE-ish. I guess it's partly because they have to write some 50 compos per year, so they eventually run out of run-of-the-mill topics like Inconsiderate Act, Embarrassing Act, etc. and have to introduce other themes (the sort for Commonwealth Essay Competitions). It's essentially a WRITING lab, not a COMPRE/ORAL/LC lab. You need to strike a balance.

Learning Point, The Write Connection, Academia, The Alternative Story... These would provide all rounded Papers1+2 practices, if I'm not mistaken.

Comment: Whenever I see such sentences, I try to phrase the sentence in a way to exclude the other person.
If mother was excluded, the sentence would be more correct if I use \"me\" or \"I\"?

Eg: I was not at home this morning (correct)

2) Please return the pencil to Jill and (she/ her/ me / I).

Comment: Similar to the above.

He almost fell into the drain.
Comment: The event has already happened, that's why I knew he almost fell and did not fall, thus, the verb should be in past tense.
