In other words, the better your AL score Is, you will have the higher priority to be admitted in first, before others. Go by merit.

Example
=======

Suppose the demand for Japanese is overwhelming, been over subscribed. Because it is a highly popular language, in Asia. Example. If you travel around Japanese, u don't need any local tourist guide, because u can understand Japanese yourself. So, what happen?

Answer -

Those who have scored AL 4 will be allocated / assigned Japanese first, before
the next group of students who have scored AL 5. So on and so forth, until last group who have scored AL 8.

AL 8 is the Cut off point, to learn MOELC (3rd language).

Similar to what had happened in the past, under the old Tscore system.
That is,

Those PSLE students in the past who have achieved Tscore 27x will enter Japanese 3rd language first,

before the next group of 26x,

followed by the last group of 25x. The Cut off point was 252.
So,
if your original Raw Tscore was 250, just narrowly missed by two points, no matter how you appeal to MOELC, also no use. Still cannot get the chance to learn 3rd language (MOELC). But of course, u can still proceed to learn Malay or Bahasa. No one will stop u from learning Malay or Bahasa, if u do not meet the official Cut off point for learning a 3rd language at MOELC ( Bishan or Newton).

If u choose Malay, in some (certain) Secondary schools, the students study there inside their own Sec school premises. No need to purposely go all the way to MOELC, just to study Malay, while for rest of the other remaining schools, u need to travel all the way to MOELC, just to study Malay.

phtthp

Reply to Third languages on Sun, 26 Nov 2023 12:17:53 GMT

Blover\" post_id=\"2123701\" time=\"1701000012\" user_id=\"203411:

Hi All
How are the third languages assigned and based on what score?

It is explained at moelc’s website here:
https://www.moelc.moe.edu.sg/courses/

I believe if # of applicants exceed vacancies for the classes, then they will allocate those with better psle score first (but i could be wrong).

zac's mum

Reply to Third languages on Sun, 26 Nov 2023 12:00:12 GMT

Hi All

How are the third languages assigned and based on what score?

Good reminder.

I just saw my last post and noticed the It's XXXX. I had to go check my original post to see the word that I used.
Why is that word edited? It is a legit word and not offending. 'Risky' is OK but 'G-----\" is not. Why? Can someone PM me please if you know what had happened? It's a XXXXX.

Perhaps re-examining the reasons to prefer IB over A levels will give you some clarity.

As for your point on CCA, I just want to point out that I know some kids who really enjoy CCA even though they have to ENSURE they get the bonus points. Ensuring we work hard to get the LEAP points AND enjoyment of the CCA are not mutually exclusive. Skipping an exam in IP Yr 4 does not mean the Yr 4 kids have more free time to enjoy their learning process either. They are equally busy, if not busier than those taking O level exams. The IP kids are just busier doing something else decided by the school instead of mugging the 10-year series.

All the best in your decisions. Whatever you choose, you did your best as a parent at this point in time. I went through your entire thinking process many years ago for my first child. As long as our kids make the best out of every situation, they will win/gain something.

I also think the same on the first point. Hi 5. I know a girl from few years ago, she got RGS CO under Sci but rejected and entered RGS using PSLE. The girl was confident and made her own choice. Tscore has the variable of cohort/peers standard too.

Noticed the highlighted ENSURE. I better go check .

edited.

00skyblue00

Reply to Third languages on Wed, 25 Oct 2023 03:35:01 GMT

Sorry, the title of this thread is "Third languages".

Please stick back to the title of this thread.
