It is indeed correct that workmanship and materials used during installation is very important.

The brands to use might not be a top priority but we should not forget that parts replacement can be a major headache and costly. You are correct to say that there is no perfect brand. Everyone have their own preference. Some might find Mitsubishi Electric to be the best but yet some might prefer Daikin, Panasonic or even LG.

Daikin proshop is honestly a good initiative. The good thing about Daikin is that they are considered the pioneer of air-conditioning and their support is strong regardless technical or spare parts.

As we are very particular about blower removal during general servicing, the only grouch we have when we service Daikin units is that they have built the indoor units in such a way whereby the blowers cannot be removed during General Servicing (except the larger BTU units) unless we put excessive force on the coils which is not recommended. Other than that all is good with Daikin but please do not compare them to the Daikins that we have from 10-20 years back as those are really power workhorses and easily last 18-20 years

This is also why we should be looking at reputable companies when we are sourcing for aircon installation so that in the event anything goes wrong, we can go back to them for accountability. Workmanship warranty is also important.
Another thing to consider will be to engage a separate company for the servicing 6 months into installation as any installation faults can be detected and rectified by your installer whilst still under the 1 year workmanship warranty.

As for recycled parts, if a reputable company is engaged it is seldom that they will do such things.
What you should be more concerned about would be whether the material used during the installation is the same as those that was quoted to you and paid for which is why it is very important to have all the materials specs listed down in the quotation to you. We have encountered situations whereby the specs were not indicated and ended up what was used was not what was promised.

Another point to note would be that each copper piping must be individually insulated and laid out properly in a suitable sized trunking. Improper laying of pipes and wires will damage the insulation and cause water leaking and mold.

Below are some photos of bad installation that we have encountered during our servicing. One had mold growing on the trunkings so we opened them to find the insulation badly flattened by bad workmanship and the aircons was only installed for 3 years.

Another customer had constant water leaking problems and mold at trunkings. We opened them and found that the installer has stuffed newspapers into the trunkings to prevent leak. They offered a gd rate for annual contract after installation and once the 1 year workmanship is over there is no way to go after them for workmanship issues. Highly unethical from my point of view.

https://s7.postimg.cc/6ntbq8ou3/bad_installation.jpg\">

https://s7.postimg.cc/etbdoesij/Newspapers.jpg\">

alien36706

Reply to All About Aircon (New, Maintenance, related components) on Mon, 23 Apr 2018 06:17:59 GMT

Actually, IMO, for aircon, more consideration should be given to the piping and workmanship as compared to the aircon brand.

Poor piping could damage the aircon, even if it is reputable brand. Even with same brand, sometimes you get good review from one person bad review from another, and the difference could actually be due to the different quality of work of the piping.

In this aspect, I would say Daikin does it right by setting up the proshops. As least, if you get from them, you can be assured that the quality of materials and workmanship is controlled by daikin. If you got recommendation for installers, not so bad, But if you buy from shops like courts or best denki, it’s difficult to tell what kind of contractors you end up with. So daikin is worth considering if you want more assurance of the piping works if you don’t know any good installers.

As for aircon brand recommendations, most say either ME or daikin is ok. Not much difference actually in quality.

Aircon is one of the highest energy guzzlers in a typical household, so maybe it is worthwhile to look at efficiency especially in hot Singapore. But it’s your choice.

One tip is make sure you get what you are promised for the materials and piping. Some installer use recycled parts to save cost. If they promise new materials, make sure they deliver the new insulation and copper pipes and setup them up in the house. If the pipes is delivered together with insulation, there’s a chance that those are recycled parts.

There are many brands that is cosmetically appealing and comes with loads of features. However the theory is the same. The more features the more parts and he more parts to breakdown.

Sometimes simplicity is beauty within itself.

What most important is to find something that suits your usage and friendly to your pockets.

The aircon is a mid range investment so careful consideration must be made before purchase and maintaining the aircons after purchase so that the lifespan is extended.

alien36706

Reply to All About Aircon (New, Maintenance, related components) on Sun, 22 Apr 2018 13:32:28 GMT

MyPillow:
Wat are the difference bet

Mit electric ( star max series)
& Mit Industry
I think later is cheaper but not sure durability

Do not be confused between Mitsubishi Electric (ME) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). You can see the shape of the wire imprinted on the insulation and the condensate water accumulated there.

2) Pvc drain pipe is not insulated resulting in condensation.

3) Trunking size is too small to fit the insulation/Pvc drain pipe and wires resulting in squeezing of materials.

Due to damaged insulation, there will be incessant sweating/water leaking at the trunkings. Black mold will eventually form. Water leaking might damage fixtures such as partition/wardrobes if the pipings are concealed. Water leaking is a fall hazard too.

Unfortunately the only way to resolve this will be to repipe the system which is costly and a hassle especially for concealed pipings.

It would be good to consider engaging a separate company for servicing about 6 months into installation as they will be able to point out any installation fault and you can have your installer correct them as it is still under 1 year workmanship warranty.

https://s17.postimg.cc/biw35tn6n/576_B965_A-54_B7-43_BB-_BD2_B-3730_A1_C15_D45.jpg\">

alien36706

Reply to All About Aircon (New, Maintenance, related components) on Mon, 09 Apr 2018 03:34:09 GMT

As parents ourselves and dealing with air conditioning, will like to share this for the benefit of all parents out there.
