<![CDATA[How much would you pay for your child's enrichment courses?]]>Dear Parents,

The new term just started, many parents like me would be thinking and planning for the new challenges our kids for the new semester.
it's our nature that parents love their children more than anything anything elses. But how many of the parents here actually set aside $$$ for their children enrichment courses monthly? 🤷
What's your take ? How much would you think is 'enough'? :moneyflies:

Thinking of adding swimming and Just Education as my child asked for it. Weird right? My child wants so much enrichment. If she enjoys, I let her go for those enrichment. Come Primary 1, it will be less enrichment for sure.

Hi, just curious how you managed your timeslot for every enrichment/programme? I am very similar as you, full of classes :oops: and I had to drop one of the private coaching session in order to have time for other enrichment's revision and homework. 😓


Hi, for weekdays - 1 enrichment a day, sometimes 2, depends on whether she wants to go, all enrichment classes are decided by her. Schedule is worked out in such a way that she has 2 off rest days per weekdays schedule.
Last year schedule for Weekends- 2 enrichment classes a day, one in morning, one in afternoon.
This year, cut down to 1 weekend academic enrichment a day.
Reason: She gets time to attend baking classes on weekends at Brillionaire Kids or Genius R Us. Personally, the service and staff at Brillionaire Kids are better than Genius R Us. BrillionairKids a little pricier.
My focus is on her penmanship and P1 academic work preparation.
If we need to go out on weekends, will skip class.
Guiding her in academic work will be done in shorter duration on weekday nights and extended duration on weekends.
She gets to have nap before she goes for any weekday enrichment class. This is to ensure she's not sleepy but alert after her kindy class.
One point to add: I realised that tuition centres usually copy from assessment books for their worksheets. If you have time to teach your child, go Popular get some assessment books. It's the same. Most importantly, I let my child attend group tuition is to gauge she can sit through in class just like primary students. My child gets to socialise with other children too. But if your child is unsble to sit still and weak academically, better work with your child one to one at home to build up the foundation.

Sometime , we sent for the sake of sending because we are afraid they will lose out . I made that mistake for my eldest kid. I learnt my lesson . Waste of $$ and stressed out . result may not be there because too busy sending here n there and no time for the kid to practice n assess . At the end, give up.

So for my younger ones, I m only sending them for the non academics courses -Arts are creativity during weekdays which not crowded so that I can discuss their development with the teachers, Chinese speech n drama at Huey Kwan for socialising n confidence , swimming - survival skill . My girl has piano lessons at home instead of the music school so that I can assess her progress n communicate with the teacher . The courses cost me $750 for the 2 kids per month. 😂
I did not enroll them for any academic enrichment classes. I DIY . It is tough for a working mother . But I feels this is the best arrangement . I planned the program n teach them what I want them to know. My annual leave is spent not to go for tour but doing the teaching stuff at home. :roll:

I haven't posted or even been around in the last 6 months.. Yes I know the Chinese was super high.. but I was at work till 10 pm most nights (hence lack of posts) daddy travels all the time only speak english with the maid.. also going to ang moh kindy (not ideal but it was for only 1 year whilst mad house at work..)

to clarify 120 dollars per week was for one on one lesson for 5 days for half an hour so only 24.00 dollars per lesson. which seemed resonable at the time..

Now the teacher is superb.. no one is complaining about his Chinese (I mean the kindergarten and in laws..) and we have reduced it to only 2 sessions per week at the teachers recommendation. He can read to about half way through P1 advanced Chinese book and recognises more characters than mummy..... so we are happy with the outcome $$$$ yes. but worth it.. :rahrah:

The swimming was with a private on one one too.. but since changed to a group class and much cheaper meh.. and a lot of improvement too.. sometimes when you don't have time.. one gets trapped into filling the kids days with so many stuff so that he doesn't miss his parents...
BIG MISTAKE on my part.. :sad: not so much the financial but rather the connection. lucky part time work is in the pipeline just have to last till March.

It depends on the family income, the age group of the kids and how many children the family has.
How to compare on-going school children and the 6-years old below?

6-years old below have plenty of time to take all sort of enrichment.
On-going school children won’t have such luxury anymore as they have to spent whole afternoon in school.

I spend $620 per week for my N2 daughter, including kindergarten school fees.

School fees, Chinese class (3x a week), reading class (2x a week), gym, tennis, swimming, montessori maths, and soon piano.

I hope to cut down chinese and reading classes next year.

why not send him to \"Jiang lao shi\" or Han Language ?
Jiang lao shi: cost fees paid by per semester (6 months) ... around $23 per lesson. Content not bad. Weekday K1 class around 5 kids, taught by China teacher(s). At aged K1, they learn through fun interaction in small group.

Pen88n was right. The swimming lesson & cl tuition is way too expensive. Yr kid is only in K1. U were right to say "it will get worse in p1". There r math, eng compo, cl comp… Another thing is yr kid might not hv time to attend so many enrichment once they r in pri.

Thks. Same as u, I will look for cheaper alternative. Just stopped my son’s 1-1 eng & maths tuition ($220/mth) n put him in cheap gr tuition ($85/mth/2 subjects). My ds1 only attended few mths of kindy as we were in overseas for the past few yrs, therefore engaged 1-1 for him when he was in p1 just in case he can’t cope with sg standard. Will continue to monitor my kids’ progress, if ok will cut down or chg to cheaper ones.

No secret lah. Just keep what is necessary and throw out the rest, even if you feel it's a waste to stop! 😜 Then, also constantly keep a lookout for cheaper and ok alternatives!

So my ds1 only has music (this really cannot stop!), ds2 maths tuition and dd has phonics and ballet.

CMA: Don't remeber exactly but 150.00 per month (pls correct me if I am wrong)
Drum lessons: 180.00 per month
Chinese: 120 * 4 = 480.00 per month
Golf: $272 per month
Swimming: $200.00 per month
Phonics, montessory maths are included in the childcare fees no additional
Your Chinese lesson is very high priced considering your kid is only in K1. $120 per lesson for 1 hr? 2hr? I would think you can get decent Chinese lessons for K1 kid for <$50 per lesson.

Same for your swimmng lesson. If you go to swimming complex, can get for about $60-$70 per month and even those in condo charges about $80-$100.

Just my humble opinion....... :oops: no offence.
