Lately, I've been focussing my attention on DS2 that I didn't realise I've kinda neglected DS1.. I didn't even notice DS1 had nose-bleed 3 times this week, until I saw blood stains on his pillow & blanket this morning, and asked him about it.. :gloomy:

I chided DS1 for not telling me about his nose-bleed episodes (1x in school, 1x at nite, 1x when I brought DS2 to tuition), but DS1 said he didn't want to 烦 me with such small matters.. I asked him what then is considered a big matter, and he said \"to you now, it's di-di's PSLE lor\".. :slapshead:

Btw.. DS1 has been prone to nose-bleed since he was a toddler.. Does anyone know of any \"cure\" to this problem ? Thanks in advance..

Oh, FF, my dd had nose bleeding almost EVERYDAY when she was younger especially during winter. After we visited an ENT in Singapore 2 years ago, she never has nose bleed anymore! The ENT applied something very spicy on her nose and dah-dah- no more nose bleed! I will PM you the ENT contact when I get to office on Monday.

DS did not sit for SAT as he isn't very keen on US universities (we prefer UK too). Of course, we hope DS qualifies for his dream course at NUS / NTU, as I prefer him to study in SG.

DS sat for BMAT (held @ RI) just a few days before A Levels began. It is valid for one year and students can sit for the test only once.

Just curious, why do you prefer UK rather than US university? Because U.K. Is better in the subject that your children will major in? Any other factors?

My boy will be taking double maths, physics and Econs, he said he wants a \"easier\" life so that he could do more other stuff. He doesn’t really like Chinese although doing okay. HCI just had their graduation dinner last week, my boy “dressed up” (most boy were in shirt and suit!) and really enjoyed the dinner. He showed me some video and it is really touching when they sang some songs and 朋友 at the end, he said he felt really emo at that time.


I really like the NY movie, it has a lot of local feel especially when the setting was in 1930s and 1980s. It was a directed by a really talented director by a local Zhao Wei Film, they had made quite a few good local movies.

Haven't made any plans for year-end holiday yet. DS1 is free only after 19 Dec. We may also need time to prepare for his NS enlistment on 04 Jan next year. Would love to visit Japan and stay in a KyoTO's michiya (not Kyo#O's.. :evil: ).

DS says RI has only 1 class doing double Maths. What about HCI ? Does your boy take part in overseas Math competitions ? I really admire & respect people who are good in Math. I can't even count properly !

Validity of SAT scores is 5 yrs, so boys can take it early if they want to, and can retake later if they think they can improve their scores. In general, they are unlikely to do better as they are in peak \"exam-taking\" mode in J2! For info:

My daughter took SAT and 2 subject tests earlier this year. She has applied or will apply to US universities, and has also applied to UK (which we parents prefer!). We'll see what she's offered and what funding she can get. She's applied to read Economics. And yes, she's in the middle of A levels now (Econs paper today!).

Jumping in: RGS arranged a SAT in school before the start of J1 for those who wanted to take it. It's a bit on the early side, but it's good practice. Most girls who decided to apply to US universities took it again later in J1 or early J2 to see if they could improve their scores. Also note that some universities require SAT subject tests, so you will need to factor those in by the middle of J2 as well. Applications to US universities need to be in towards the end of J2 (there are different schemes and deadlines) and because of the A levels, most students try to clear the SATs and subject tests by the middle of the year.

By the way, it seems that SAT places in certain months can be booked up very quickly as many students from overseas (notably China) come to Singapore to take the SAT. So it's good to book a date early.
