I was there for some time and I have taught the writing classes before. I find that coming from a teacher’s POV, its not bad. They have to produce an essay a week. Thats much more than what schools give them.

Each written expression requires them to complete a mindmap first.In my personal opinion, I find that not all pupils benefit from drawing mindmaps. Some pupils are ok with planning by other means so they may find drawing the mindmaps tedious. The environment there is not as stressful as some other learning centres too.

This is just my POV. Not speaking up for them or against them.

As far as dd2 is concerned, I don't think camp is useful.
She still doesn't draw mind map. No application to daily work.
