The hotel was generally OK but I am sure there are better choices. You may wish to do a search on TripAdvisor as it allows you to filter by budget and other metrics. As for the traveling time, I wish I could help you on that but I would not want to provide ballpark figures which may be totally off. Pretty sure there are others who can shed light on that.

P.S. Felt compelled to share this shop at which I had breakfast. It is called Uncle Chow Kopitiam. Serves a wide range of stuff such as nasi lemak, char kway teow and western pastries (e.g. scones). You might need a vehicle to access that shop, depending on where your hotel is situated. We booked the same hotel (Hotel De La Fern) and we have no complains about the place. Only thing is that my advice is not to go to Cameron during the Malaysian school holidays. We encountered traffic jams during the trip. This was due to cars stopping to park their cars along the narrow roads at the road side markets.

We had a memorable drive up Gunung Brinchang. At 2032 m, it is the second highest mountain in Cameron Highlands. The road up to the Mossy Forest was narrow and winding. We have to park one side for vehicles coming from the other direction. This road is the highest paved road in Malaysia. While we were there at the forest, the clouds are passing by and it was quite an interesting feeling to be "in" the rain. My son finally had a chance to pick strawberries at a farm on the way down this time.
