The remaining are mixed.
For P5 and P6, the pupils all sort out by abilities.
I personally think that such sorting is better as it enable the teachers to focus on the ability of each kids. E.g. I heard that for the bottom class of P6 science, the teacher just focus on helping the students get as much marks in the multiple choices section. On the other end, the GEP students are taught subjects beyond the syllabus. Thus such students would prefer that there will be some questions in the PSLE exam that explore the fringes of the syllabus as this is where they could distinguish themselves from the rest.
Good teachers are rare. Such good teachers will probably be deployed to focus on the Top and Bottom P6 group since they will affect the school's A* scores and the passing rates.
Just from the drop in classes for the GEP (e.g. in TNS, there used to be 4 and now only 2), I do not think that the number of BICEP classes offered will be increased. The budget for the BICEP class is higher than that for the normal. The budget for GEP is even higher. While the GEP students are typically noted for their high intelligence, the BICEP students are noted for their high discipline. Thus the limited resource will probably be focused on these particular group of students.

darwinkoh

Reply to Tao Nan on Thu, 21 Nov 2019 03:54:50 GMT

Besides the BICEP class, how many classes are there in P4 - 6, excluding the GEP classes?

Are the remaining classes sorted by abilities?

With the change in MOE’s directives to reduce focus on academic, will the current lower Pri students also have the BICEP class by the time they reach P4?

Chinese) will come into play during the interview and written test.
The overall academic is important as the BICEP class will be the selected mainstream class that will interact with the 2 GEP classes for the next 3 years. They will join the GEP students in classes such as Chinese and PE. The BICEP is predominantly girls while the GEP predominantly boys. PSLE results for BICEP is very competitive with those of GEP as the former is good at Chinese while the latter at Science.

darwinkoh
