This means that Teck Ghee usually is oversubscribed in round 2, but Townsville has space available to Round 2CS, along with PR & Foreigners. Thus, Teck Ghee is a very Singaporean school with most students coming from within 2km radius. Townsville has a slightly more varied cohort, as it’s preferred "2nd choice" for those local who miss out on elite schools in Bishan, along with non-Singaporeans who get allocated there. Teck Ghee has a slightly more academic focus, whereas Townsville is stronger in arts. Townsville school campus is brighter, bigger and more spacious; Teck Ghee is highly built up with a new indoor sports hall opened last year. Both are great neighbourhood schools.

I would recommend easiest option is to keep both kids at the same school. It will mean you can spend more time with both of them! Just put them both into Townsville Primary School - it’s a delightful school, and doesn’t require balloting for Phase 2C. You won’t need to volunteer to get it, and the kids can enjoy a world class, stress-free education together.

I also think it is prudent that when we consider our second option, we should restrict them to those within 1km of our place as the heart cannot take too many rounds of balloting (esp. in this highly competitive year). We have only Teck Ghee and Townsville within 1km (I am discounting Catholic High which is also within 1km given how supremely competitive it is plus I would like my son and daughter to attend the same Primary school if I can help it - I think it will be nice for them to have shared experiences). As far as I know, I am not even within 1-2km of any TPY schools so that’s a no-go.

JW

jwhk10

Reply to [Ang Mo Kio] Primary Schools on Tue, 17 Jul 2018 07:53:20 GMT

jwhk10:
Dear All,

My son is due for P1 registration this year, and I am suitably anxious given that my choice of school (or should I say, my pick from what may still be realistically available given the rather ‘alarming’ registration stats so far for the Dragon Year cohort!) would not just impact my son, but also my daughter in three years’ time.

We stay in Bishan (overlooking Bishan Park) and our 1st choice is a school around the vicinity which works best for us as it is of close proximity to my in-laws’ place (they being my kids’ primary care-givers in the day). From what I observed, Townsville Primary is a viable option for us. The school compound seemed pleasant and relatively new, though my wife had some concerns relating to several rather quiet corridors and staircases (primarily near the newer Annex block which strangely did not seem to have much going on there?). I got the sense that the school has a framework in place to ensure that the weaker students are not left behind, while at the same time, possess the capacity to also ensure that the higher performance students are suitably stretched to fulfil their academic potential. That said, I am mindful that my observations were through a short 1.5hr session spent observing the school and engaging a couple of teachers who kindly brought us around. Past registration statistics suggest that Townsville is not one of the more popular choices in the AMK circuit, and I must confess I do wonder why that might be the case.

I noted that there was some discussion about Townsville on this thread, albeit the more recent ones were a couple of years back by parents on this forum such as mcw03e and xcajsw. I am hoping that my post will elicit some further sharing on Townsville Primary which will allow me to better understand the school and what it can offer.

Thanks in advance!

JW

Are you referring to Phase 2C? From what i reading the area, roughly I can guess which school.
So you are not looking at other school in AMK/TPY?

Lexy

Reply to [Ang Mo Kio] Primary Schools on Tue, 17 Jul 2018 06:54:02 GMT
