My son has allergic rhinitis
since 2+. I had tried all types of medication (except nose spray) from
western specialist to chinese tui na.

I have spent so much seeing doctor weekly. Doctor will usually prescribe anti-histamine to make him feel better. Now that he is 5+, I have finally find a way to control it. I had tried for past 3 months, it really helps.

Step 1
Nasal wash - You can get it from Guardian. There is one specially designed for kids. Check out how to use it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNLSqZN_FSw

Step 2
Zytech Drop - You can get it easily from Guardian Pharmacist counter. I gave 5 drops for my 5 years old.

Voila! That's all! Do it when you see signs of allergic attack.

I can differentiate whether it is a flu or allergic rhinitis now. If he did not recover from the above, he probably has a flu.In this the case, I will usually bring him to see a doc.

One last thing, his allergic is getting lesser even since he started swimming. Swimming really helps!

Cheers!

Reply to No cure to allergic rhinitis but it can be controlled on Thu, 04 Oct 2018 07:30:11 GMT

You may also visit https://allergytest.sg/service/skin-prick-allergy-test/ for more allergy related topics.

dtapclinic

Reply to No cure to allergic rhinitis but it can be controlled on Mon, 13 Aug 2018 04:43:22 GMT

If you have allergic rhinitis you can use the saline trick to clear out your nose of mucous and debris. Just make pour warm water and salt in a cup and stir it, Then get a syringe and tilt your head and pour that water into one of your nostril or mouth. Also use both sudafed and benadryl then you should be fine. Might want to get an air filter which would clean the air and also put zippered bags on your mattress, pillows and boxframe. You don’t really need surgery, you should be able to maintain it. Hope that helps.

I have tried him on swimming as well. It was really good and symptoms did not appear for half a year. But when cooler weather return end of the year and when I have to stop his swimming, it came back. He did not like to swim and has to be forced, it was really tiring even just to do so.

Yesterday, after answering your PM here, I immediately sprang to action. I took pirate’s advice seriously and came up with a reward scheme. For every run around our estate (4.8km), he will get 2 game cards. He was so motivated that he wanted to do 2 rounds but was stopped by me : )

His nose was clear after running for half hour and he felt so much better. Come to think of it, the herbal basic nose spa machine is all along built in our body but we did not utilize it. When we run, the warm air will be circulated around the nasal passage like the nose spa. Today’s result is encouraging.

Thanks pirate for your advice. I will take it to heart and make it a routine.

Enjoy your long weekend.

Cheers
Dido

So that night I went straight to GP and immediately she felt a lot better after the medicine. The bio light may work but probably more for non urgent cases. The treatments there very ex too. For my gal’s case, need seek immediately attention and glad I brought her to the GP instead.

Currently my gal is doing the nose spa for her AR. For those who are looking for non medical relief, I can give 2 suggestions. They may not necessarily work for you or your children, but they do not involve having to take any medication or supplements.

(1) If the allergy is due to dust mites, my experience is that merely using anti-dustmite pillows and mattresses is not enough. Dust mites also live on our skin. It is usually their droppings that people are allergic to. Personally, I have found that investing in a really powerful vacuum cleaner is also necessary. What you want is one that can be used to vacuum mattresses, pillows etc. I like the ones that use water instead of bags or filters as I don't have to breathe in all the muck that inevitable flies out when changing filters or bags. Vacuum your pillows, mattresses etc every time you change the bedsheets. You will probably have to vacuum the curtains etc at least once every few months too to get rid of accumulated dust. I am not selling anything, so all I will say is that there are a few brands available. You can find discussions on such vacuum cleaners at Kiasuparents. The downside is they can be quite expensive, but it is a one time investment. A good one should last more than 10 years.

(2) I also find that regular exercise helps. Ever since I started running regularly, I get significantly fewer attacks - thank you IPPT! And if I get lazy and don't run for a couple of weeks, it starts coming back. When I start to run again, I can usually feel my sinus open up within a minute or two. It's actually as quick as that! It does not have to be long runs. Just 10 minutes 2 or 3 times a week should do.

These 2 measures have kept me sniffle free in the mornings for the last 15 years.

pirate

Reply to No cure to allergic rhinitis but it can be controlled on Thu, 10 Jul 2014 02:08:46 GMT

Hi All,

Here is the update of Herbal Basic:

His treatment should stop in April as package has ended but needed to continue as he was not fully treated. I have to buy the extras packs of medicine for past few months. Each time (each month) $126 for 10 packs.

I have given up hope that he will be fully treated. He has definitely improved, for sure. He is not so sensitive as compared to before.

Positive side, I am glad that my children need not drink any more antibiotics which worsen their immune system. They used to be given week after week of antibiotic and it lasted for 3 months. With this in mind, I do not mind paying the extra packs. If I stop, I still need to fork out to see the doctor and it works out to be the same. I will treat this as a payment for another enrichment lesson then.

The medicine is effective but too costly. If only there is competition, the price will then dropped : (

Regards
Dido

His allergic rhinitis has been haunting him almost everyday of his life. Imagine wearing a mask to school early morning, wearing it in church due to air con etc. Whatever forum has suggested, I have almost done it- Zyrtec, nose wash, spray, anti dust mite except going for ENT for surgery. Now I am going to give Herbal Basic a last try, we have taken up the package costing $1800+ which requires daily nose spa for 3.5months. I will post the result after his treatment.

One thing I can vouch for is that my daughter’s allergic rhinitis was cured by Herbal Basic. She is not the serious one as compared to her brother. When she was 4, she fell sick for 3months after going for 1 x swimming lesson. We didn’t think it was rhinitis then. Last year at 6 years old, we let her go through the lessons again, she was sick close to half year. GP initially thought it was bronchitis as she displayed phlegmy cough. She visited 4x of GP and was given 3 sets of anti bodies, it went and came back. The 2nd GP diagnosed that it was sinuses and still it was not cure. It was so serious that she suffered from ear block due to the long haul of her block nose.

We read the forum and gave Herbal Basic a try. Indeed the price is not cheap. Every visit cost us $40. She went there 2x/week and then weekly and now fortnightly. She had close to 12 treatments costing $500. After her first 2 visits, her phlegmy chest was gone. Slowly her ear was block, then her block nose. During the 12 treatment, there are 2 other factors that improve her condition. Both kids played with sea water for 3 full days during our Phuket trip, the Chinese doc says that the salt water has helped their nose. Of course, after 2 weeks or so, symptom came back. Another thing is that she had started P1. From air-con childcare to non aircon school, it has also helped.

The cost is indeed high but if my son was cured when he was 6, this cost will not be enough to cover the frequent trips to doc, buying of Zyrtec, detrimental to health due to anti bodies, misbehavior due to irritation, suffering etc.

I wrote this to share with all mummies and daddies who have to suffer with allergic rhinitis, hope that you and your child need not suffer like mine. Therefore, treat it early before things become worse.

Will update all again.

God bless
Dido
