According the the MOE website:

You would have to pay for the use of this service.[/quote]Like most Singaporeans, I didn't want to pay first so I called up a particular school to ask if I stayed within 1km of it. I was told to draw a 1km radius on a map to check. I thought that it was kind of weird, but I tried anyway.

Using different points of the school on the map, the distance ranged from 0.9km to 1.1km.

IF I decide pay for the SLA service, will the distance calculated be officially recognised and used in the balloting process?

Depends. If your child is an existing student, sometimes the principal may mention.

If you’re not an insider, usually we will find out when MOE tells the press about upcoming P1 registration dates, which school moving to which holding site.

Nope. There isn’t any because the OneMap School Query API is off limits. Hence, the only place where you can find the exact home school distance is OneMap.

Unfortunately a major North south expressway construction has come up right next to our house since three months ago, and my family has been falling sick constantly (flu's with runny noses, phlegm and coughing), have done multiple PCR's and seen multiple doctors and all of them say it is due to allergic reaction to the dust particles (we have the diagnosis and receipts and everything). I have multiple air purifiers running as well as ACs with 3M filtrete in them, but it doesnt help much.

We happen to have an apartment which we have rented out to another party, for which their lease expires in July 2022. Is it possible to write into MOE to seek exemption for 5 months out of the 30 month stay requirement? meaning instead of staying till Dec 2022, we stay till July 2022. The current Covid situation has made it a nightmare for my kids as we are frequently called to fetch them back due to the flu symptoms (even though they have never had fever and we have done umpteen PCR tests which have all come back negative). The current class teacher for my son can attest to all these symptoms and we have been in touch with her throughout and she is very understanding.

Is there any possibility of this exemption? what if we seek exemption for 3 months instead of 5?

There’s really no harm trying. They assess on a case by case basis. Your case does sound compelling, given the medical reasons. Do take care!

Flag pole is rarely in the center of the school. Some schools have a sprawling compound or in such a weird shape (elongated for example) that 1km from the flag pole isn’t going to get you far.

Isn’t that the definition and purpose of “distance”?

The neighbor could be 999.5m from the school while she is 1,000.5m from the school. Length matters. Sucks but she should have bought her neighbor’s house instead.
