On a separate note - why would a tuition center spinning off 50% profit a year be letting go (saw them on businesses for sale)? It is good money for the owners!

此时，补习中心老板的心情是又期待又怕受伤害。
期待的是焦急的父母开始为爱子找补习中心，哈哈！生意上门了！
害怕的是＂不进则退＂的学生很有可能消失得无影无踪。
忐忑不安的心情局外人难以理解。大家都以为这个行业好赚，却没有考虑到学生的流动性很大，只要一个学期看不到效果，有些家长立刻转到其他补习中心，让你措手不及，无形中打击了你的信心，开始怀疑自己的能力。
路遥知马力，只有具备真正实力的补习中心才能立于不败之地，否则最多两年，租约结束后，中心也隨之结束。

Hi worrisome_dad, I don’t see any reason that you should get so emotional over our replies. I don’t think anyone posted anything directly against you.

What I can agree on with Grandmaster TheAnswer is that your friend’s business experience doesn’t proof that the education business - specifically setting up of a tuition centre - is in your words "very unstable and volatile". What you have explained in that post shows that your friend made many bad business decisions mainly due to the lack business and tutoring experience before the set-up.

It was great that you bothered to share your knowledge and thoughts but we too were just sharing ours. Believe it or not, the education industry continues to remain as one of the most lucrative industry. In fact, its a lot more stable than most other business - especially retail.

I once worked at a tuition centre. It had 3 very tiny classrooms & the outside was packed groceries for sale. It didnt have a proper signboard & all its tutors - expect the owner (graduate) - were undergraduates. It survived for several years before I joined them and continue to survive today - still in the same haphazard way. While working there, we face similar problems too. Students playing truant, demanding to be let off early, work not done, disrupting classes, non-payment of tuition fees, demands for refunds, demand for the classes to start later etc. but it is all part and parcel of the business.

Yeah, there’s no need to get angry over others’ out-of-context allegations. The poster obviously has missed your point. I find it ludicrous that an educator can’t differentiate genuine questions and rhetorical questions. This is not the first time she ‘asked questions’, and when questioned about her questions, dismisses them as mere questions. So don’t get so worked up over her ‘questions’.

I appreciate your sharing about your friend’s experience. It paints a very real picture of how it could really be like in the quest of setting up a tuition centre.

It’s always easy to say things on hindsight, but another to really go through the experience.

It's obvious that your post is against me. You seem very emotional in this issue. In a forum, we express our own opinions. I merely asked a few questions and you shot me down. Everything was turned around as if I knew you and I had something against you. I did not in anyway try to insinuate anything. It's all in your own imagination. In anything we read, we form our own opinions. As for receiving threats, do not start accusing us just because you have received some from other forums.

Worrisome,

All of us who have been contributing to forums for a number of years have learnt that being misunderstood and misquoted is very, very common in any forum. Unlike face-to-face meetings, there are no visual or auditory cues as to the intent of the person, and the anonymity of the internet means we assume many things about ourselves and the other person.

As long as we explain our position and ourselves, being misunderstood and misquoted should not be issues with our being useful members of this community.

I have friends who succeeded, who failed and who are struggling in the tuition centre business. Like any business, the risk of failure is always there.

Everyone was entitled to it. Secondly I wasn’t refer to tutoring but the setting up of the tuition centres in the context of a friend. In fact in my opening context, i quote "It may be true only for the very successful enrichment centre who found their niche in this market. It is a fallacy that tuition Centre was anything but easy."

I think this is absurd for somebody to totally take me out of context! How do you want me to answer your question or i would call allegation that i cannot absolve myself from blame but to totally provide evidence to prove my innocence? "Give us proper respect. We are all making an honest living with the knowledge we have. " Did i say you are not making an honest living. I am merely sharing my friend’s experiences and i got flamed. What a forum!!! The next, I may be getting threats as I have already gotten in another forum. I don’t intend anyone to read beyond what I wrote, but obviously someone did…and i was mortified and ashamed of being part of this discussion!!
