Different students : different pace setting.


At end of Primary 4, based on their academic performance in their 4 subjects, students are streamed into new P5 classes. They will stay inside this same class for two years, in P5 and P6, all the way until they finish / complete their PSLE.

1) for those "stronger" P5 students, they will enter into those classes, where our school will motivate / challenge them further, in certain subjects greater, depending on which subject content mastery they demostrated more passion in.To "stretch" them, further.


2) However,
for those "weaker" P5 students, our school will arrange for them to attend extra re-medial lessons after school is dismissed, on certain week days, to help them catch up quickly and to prepare them, to face PSLE.

Whether the students are strong or weak, our school have the means (methods) to identify them, sieve them out early at beginning of P5 and help them to face and to get ready, for PSLE.

However,
if your daughter is facing learning disability issues, dyslexic or attention deficit issues like ADD / ADHT, etc.

eg.

say, encounter learning issues, learning difficulty in Maths / English / Chinese,
Then,

over & above letting your daughter to attend our school based re-medial lessons, parents will have to send their child for external outside help too, in whatever these outside help coping / equipping lessons may be.
Eg.
Some students faced challenges in

(English, Maths & Science),

because of their

underlying learning disabilities / hindrances / obstacles / hurdle / challenges.

Take note.

If your daughter indeed is struggling hard with some serious, underlying, challenging learning disability difficulties,
then,

attending those in-house school available ready re-medial lessons, are not sufficient. Because the disabilities, are getting in the way, hindering them.

And if you're just an average or a slightly above average kid, you'll \"suffer in SNGS\".

I understand that SNGS has a rich culture and heritage of academic excellence to maintain, thus some degree of stress is understandable. How's the overall school environment like in terms of stress and pressure under the current Principal and executive staff?

I just wanted to check the reliability of the latest review from Google Map? To what extent is the current stress and pressure there, relative to the one in 2013 (which happened to fall under the leadership of Mrs Tan Wai Lan from 2012-2016)? Has the 姐妹同心 culture of mutual guidance or overall mental and emotional well-being of students been de-emphasised in the pursuit of academic KPIs?

If there are more feedback and comments about the current (or even recent past several years) school culture in SNGS that would be helpful indeed!

Yes you can. Each phase in the registration is completely independent of what you did in earlier phases. That said, CHIJ St Nicholas is a very hot school, guaranteed to require balloting <1km in Phase 2C. Good luck,

So I think we have different interpretations of streaming, hence the difference in opinion about whether or not it is done.

Is the elder sister in your example, a current student in sec?
If the elder sister in your example, is a current student in sec, the younger sister will be eligible to join pri in phase 1. The parent will receive a PG message on this in April.

once your 6 year old K2 daughter is a SC living beyond 2 km,

there is no guarantee that she can come back to St Nick safely, if balloted out unluckily.
So,
need to prepare a backup school for Phase 2B or 2C, just in case.

are to register during the Phase 1 registration period

from 4 July 2023 (Tuesday),

For Secondary 1 intake,
our dual-track school fix our classes to

( five IP classes, plus
another five O-level ) Sec 1 classes.


At end of Sec 2,
when come to choosing new Sec 3 subject combination,
then
the O-level track (OP) will open up one more extra new class, become Total 6 OP classes.

Example

If you refer to last year 2022 Sec 3, you can check (count) that there are Total 6 OP classes.

Don't forget that
at end of Sec 2,
St Nick does take in new Transfer students, coming in from other Secondary schools as well, after these external students have sat for entrance tests for admission to assesss their suitability, at the end of Sec 2.

But,
for year 3 IP, no change.
Still remain at original Total : five IP classes.


2) best to clarify with our school Principal / VP,

regarding your question
whether at the Affliation Cut off point of AL 14 -

is there any St Nick affliated P6 student who got balloted out at AL 14, even if they had put O-level (St Nick) as their first choice, right at the Top of the listing of making their 6 Secondary school choices ?

Only she, the Principal, knows.
Or the VP.
These are the right people, to advise you.

By the way,
briefing for parents, is going to take place soon. Past two years, due to covid, they held it online (zoom).
You may pose this question, to Principal on parents' briefing day, if you are keen.

Parliament did mention before that all affliated schools in Singapore -

must set aside
20% of their Secondary 1 intake,

1) streaming exercise only takes place, at the end of Primary 4.

No streaming takes place,
at the end of
(Primary 3 nor at Primary 5).

Thus,
P3 students moved up into P4, and remained inside the same class. But,
some subject Teachers can change, when pupils moved up from P3 into P4.

Likewise, P5 students moved up into P6, & remained inside the same class, to prepare for PSLE.

But, some subject Teachers can change, when students moved up into P6.


2) No,

our school (St Nick) does not fix class names, for the two Top P5 classes.

Instead, we changed the names of these Top two P5 classes,
from batch to batch,
or from year to year.


However,
in some other primary schools, Example,
in Maha Bodhi primary school, another SAP school,
they do fix their Top P5 classes.
I recalled that one of them is ...
P5 (class Integrity).


3) Our school give various types of MOE Edusave award, mentioned below, inside the hyperlink.

Other primary schools, more than 100+ primary schools in Singspore, also give the similar type of award, because
all these awards come from the same, identical MOE (Ministry of Education, Singapore).

a)
At the end of each year, in November,
all primary schools' Principal(s) will submit the names of pupils from their own school, to receive these various type of MOE Edusave awards, for \"Singapore Citizenship\" students only. Not for any (PR nor foreigner nor International) students status.

b) Once MOE received the names of all these awardee ( pupils ), submitted individually, by all the 100+ primary schools in Singapore, MOE will start centralised processing.

Example

say,

4)
pupil X (Wang Su Yan),
from Mayflower primary school,
received the Top 10% P5 cohort level award, and this pupil stay in Ang Mo Kio Block 180, Avenue 4.

5)
Pupil Y (Chen Mei Yin),
from CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' primary school, also received Top 10% P5 cohort level award,
and this pupil stay in Ang Mo Kio Block 163, Avenue 4.

6)
Pupil Z (Amos Yao Zhi Zhong),
from Anderson primary school,
also received Top 10% P5 cohort level award,
and this pupil stay in Ang Mo Kio, Block 171, Avenue 4.

So, what does MOE officer from the Exams department do ?

MOE official
will then compile a list of names of awardees by residential area,
and in turn

give this name list to an officer in charge, inside the relevant Community Centre (CC), to process. This CC officer will then notify these awardees by writing letters to inform them,
when (which date and time) to receive the award from their zonal MP in January or February, next year 2023.
MP is the Minister, in charge of that area or zone.

That's how,
pupils (X, Y, Z) above,
from 3 different primary schools, end up receiving their award from their MP, say,
from Kebun Bahru Community Centre, in Ang Mo Kio area, sometime next year, held either in 2023 January or February.
