The schools pray every morning and play/sing hymns every day. I don’t think the teachers treat non catholic and non christians differently from the rest. Only about 20 to 30% of the girl are catholics.

Hi All,

i’m Catholic, staying in Loyang and would like to register my Daughter for 2022 intake into IJ using Phase 2B.
Preferred choice is IJ TP but considering the distance and the balloting history, chances of getting in may not be high. So i’m considering immediately registering at another IJ school in Phase 2B.

Which is a better school?
KC vs OLN?
Distance wise is about the same.

We love the fact that CHIJ put a lot of focus on the children's character development and social responsibility.
My only little worry is.. Would it be problem for a Christian to attend a Catholic school? Would our Christian God consider it as blasphemy? Could you share your thought/experience?

It is the same God from the same bible. I don’t think it’s blasphemy.

Just that the manner and rituals of worship are different. It’s up to you, whether you think your child’s spiritual journey will be confused by the differences, or not.

My own personal choice, I chose a school closer to my own religion, for the sake of more seamless religious education for my child.

CHIJ schools have pupils and parents from all sorts of religion. I don’t think there is any issue with that. IMO

I spend 10yrs in a Catholic school (non chij) and I am not a Catholic and still not. I do not have a problem making friends in school.
Just take note in regardless of your religion, your gal may still be exposed to bibles and some of the teaching.

about 20+% of students in CHIJ (Kellock) are catholics, I believe the environment is more inclusive than exclusive. I think CHIJ (Kellock) is one of the top choice in Bukit Merah area if you have a daughter. --> girls school with affiliation, in fact, the only school in Bukit Merah with affiliation.

All mission schools (Catholic, Methodist, Anglican or Presbyterian) will NOT exclude anyone who are not in this denominations.

Also I don't see why non catholic kids can't make friends with catholic kids. When making friends we don't see which religion you come from.

In most of the CHIJ schools, the girls come from different religion and different race, the only thing that the non catholic girls don't attend is the catechism class. However, there are some parents who are non catholic actually wrote in to the school and allow their girls to participate as well.

So, I think there is nothing to worry about.

Hi, I am keen to register my girl in either OLN or OLGC. But I know that OLN is very popular and chances of balloting at phase 2C is high (I stay at >2km from the school).

I would like to seek advice on OLGC. Anyone has any idea of how the school is like?
- How are the teachers there?
- How is the environment like?
- Are they strong in teaching of values?
- How strong are they in their academics?
As it does not seem like a very popular IJ school, I’m wondering is it because of its location (nestled among the private housing) which does not appeal to parents?

No need to try IJ TP again at 2C. Go straight to Marymount Convent or other not so popular CHIJs.

If you prefer a safe seat in a Catholic school, go to the not so popular CHIJs at Phase 2B right away.

I agree. Odds for IJTP for 2B for >2km is about less than 30%... If you can stomach it, then go for balloting. Otherwise, don't waste your 2B chance and look other CHIJs.

There is no academic excellence to speak of at the start of P1 / in P1.

The main criteria would be distance.
