Went for my daughter's P1 orientation last Saturday.

Overall impression is good.

Quite surprise that the school only allowed parents to be present on the 1st day of school, during recess time ( only half an hour ).

I'm putting my daughter in the student care center in the school.
Anyone here same ??

Eventually, teachers are the ones who teach and guide our children. So far, I can see that the upper primary teachers are still working very hard to push the students to get good grades. Don’t complain too much workloads in upper primary.

School is just a building.

the Principal was previously from Queenstown Primary. You try to check previous rankings between Queenstown and Sembawang Primary for comparison.

It'll probably take a couple of years for the Principal to push the ranking up.

After talking to some of my friends whose kids are also primary 1& neighbours I have the following observations:
1. The Mother Tongue teacher always changes. (Eg. the tr teaching them first term no longer in the school change another new teacher).
2. Their chinese spelling is only 8 words while most primary school is 10 words
3. For Math, they do not have word problem solving sum while most school seems to have .

As such I am not sure whether this will affect them in the long term as it seem easier for the kids now but when they are in upper primary they may find difficulties in coping.
Heard that the Principal from Queenstown Primary is coming over to replace the existing Principal. Also heard that she's good!! Hope things changes for the best. :boogie:

So parents who are enrolling your child to Sembawang Primary School should not worry too much.
The highest T-score only indicates how well the top student is doing. It doesn't reflect the overall performance. Only a 100% pass for all PSLE students in the school itself is considered a highly measurable performance. If 5% did not pass, why? We should also look at which secondary schools the students go to. Do they go to mid-tier schools or high-tier schools after P6?

My son will be a Primary 1 student in Sembawang Primary School in 2016. Would like to know parents whose kids are going in to this school and at the same time find out what CCA the school offers and how is the workload for primary 1 students? My friend told me Sembawang Primary School got lots of Malay students and their learning pace is slow. For eg she pointed up that her son at Canberra Primary School already start writing composiiton 80 words and Sembawang Primary is only learning constructing of sentences is this true? Hope to find parents whose kids are in Sembawang Primary School so that to know more about the school.

Sembawang Primary is not popular among the neighbourhood schools in Sembawang, though it is a good school having 1 or 2 PSLE t-score marks difference as compared to others for the past few years which I noticed. It is keeping low profile and not active on social media even though they have new programmes or participating in competitions.


My child is currently studying in the school. The school had renovated last year. They have a big field and Eco garden. The dragon fruit tree, the sunflowers and orchids which my child will talk about after school besides just studies and friends. I can see the change in personal character from shy to a confident one. The school is expecting the best from the students not just in academic only but also character building. They invites grandparents to the school to celebrate festivals with them. Students learn different cultures by wearing traditional clothes and share the festival cookies.

The school won a number of awards in CCA like in Ruby and Chinese Orchestra throughout the years. They participate in youth festivals. They introduces swimming and pottery for lower primary. Teachers are caring and passionate especially Mother Tongue teachers.They will circle out all wrong words written and let them know the correct strokes of the Chinese characters. They have literature lessons during supplementary class. Students learn to make use of YouTube to search for science information. Learning journeys to science centre, discovery centre, art museum, road safety park, camping and oversea learning programmes in Malaysia are the ones that students can learn creatively outside classrooms. Overall, I am satisfied with the school activities that keep students busy.

MP Lim Wee Kiak studied in Sembawang Primary School. This MP is a good role model as he studied in a neighbourhood primary school. Who knows you can be a MP one day when you grow up even if you go to neighbourhood primary school.
