Hi, my gal is due for Primary registration this coming June/July. I staying within 1 KM to both CHIJ TPY & Pei Chun Primary & would like to hear from more parents what you think of these 2 primary schools. Thks.

Pei Chun requires balloting for <1km in Phase 2B in the last 2 years. You should get better luck with Kuo Chuan which requires balloting only for those 1-2 km away. If you want no balloting at all in Phase 2B, then St Andrew's would be the best choice. (I might be biased as I spent 10 years in St Andrew's 😂 )

How come you can have so much flexibility in Phase 2B? You must be some community leader.

I think the above poll tells the whole story on First Toa Payoh. Pei Chun is probably the best school in Toa Payoh, but it's hard to get in.

Both schools similar.
The advantage that CHIJ TP has is obviously the affiliation.

Your tier is not the same as my tier; there is no tier. To define tier 2, you will have to provide your definition for tiers, and what are your tier 1, tier 3, etc schools.

Hi Floppy, my tier 1 is SAP school like Ai Tong but i am aware of the balloting risk. Any idea if Marymount’s psle results is on par with chij tpy? Thank you

Perhaps, only left with FTP. Noticed that available vacancies in Phase 2C is at 182, but with only 11 applicants. I think most of the parents would prefer KC & PC vs FTP.
Is there any reason? Is there any FTP parents here? Appreciate if you can advise how's the teacher in FTP? How's the environment and also the values. The more info the better 🙂

KC should have better chance. If you can stomach the extreme ballot of Peichun then try.

Thanks for clearing my doubts. I am certain now that I should just go for PCPS.
I was under the impression that SJI Junior is more competitive until I saw the replies for you guys. FYI, my boy is quite loud and opinionated (born in the year of Goat and Horoscope Aries) - hence I wanted him to go to a competitive school so that he could be challenged. Not sure if that makes sense... :siao:

A bird in hand is worth more than two in the bush. Unless you have no other option (or really dislike PCPS), there is really no point to join in the fun. You can heng heng (or suay suay) be the one who’s balloted out.

One option that you can take is to register for PCPS in Phase 2A. If this is one of those lucky years whereby SJIJ doesn’t need to ballot for SC < 1km (you should encourage all those boys around you, especially your neighbors, who’s applying to P1 to go for ACSP :evil: ), you can withdraw and re-register in SJIJ in Phase 2Con the last day.

SJIJ very good chance <1km even if need to ballot. Walking distance is very enticing.

2C < 1km SJIJ - likely ballot

Academic wise, Pei Chun is MORE competitive than SJIJ. SJIJ does have the added advantage of being affiliated to SJI (high COP) and SPS (low COP).

Hi, IMO, if you decide to stay put and don't want to shift house, since you are Catholic, you can try SC>2km ballot for Maris Stella at 2B.

And if fail, go for St. Gabriel's at 2C, might or might not need balloting for SC>2km.

Current TUR about 67% just about historical high level, and 2B haven’t had ballot <1km. It’s probably still safe and even if ballot, chances are very high. It’s still worth to go for it for the affiliation and holistic education.

Is it due to that new condo, also the HDB near PCPS, both PCPS and TPY CHIJ take up rate is so much higher this year !!
It’s a confluence of factors.

Reduction of places as per the post above. DBSS, BTO, condo coming of age. Completion (and future addition) of MRT network means alumni staying further away are more willing to consider the schools.
