Stock up on gochujang too, that spicy fermented chili paste adds a serious kick to any dish. Don't sleep on bibimbap either, it's a mixed rice bowl packed with veggies, meat, and topped with a fried egg - total flavor bomb. And of course, Korean BBQ is a must, grab some marinated meats like bulgogi or galbi and grill 'em up tableside for the full experience. I didn't need to rely on GPS as it was easy to navigate around Seoul by recognising key landmarks and shop/cafe names at important junctions. But I did download some map apps which I hardly used.

There are only that many districts to visit in Seoul and some are very close to one another, like Myeongdong to Nandaemun mkt to Shingsegae to N-Seoul Twr are all within walking distance.

Myeongdong streets follow a grid plan, all parallel, how can one be lost?

Dongdaemun Wholesale District is even easier to get around, even with old folks tagging along with you. The buildings radiate from one major crossing where the stadium is, and the neon-lit names are at the top of the buildings, so you just look up to get your bearings and tell your husband where you are. In fact, to date, I can close my eyes and still remember the directions to those malls.

Major districts/attractions are all accessible via subway. Once you get out of the subway exit, the markets, spas, malls, F&B and attractions are nearby, guided by brown tourist signages bearing romanised Korean names.

You just walk the same route back to the station after sightseeing or if you are truly lost, just ask the younger locals who can speak some English or shop assistants who can speak Putonghua.

It's no different from navigating in Singapore and other big cities. I always shop alone, so when it's time to meet up, I just whatsapp the shop-front photo or text the name of the cafe I'm waiting at. E.g. 'Innisfree now. WRU?'

Apps can really take you thru the longer route sometimes. But maybe useful for teenage kids as you're worried they might be lost.
https://postimg.cc/G8HptTC9

.010675zeit

Reply to Travel: Korea - General on Fri, 05 Apr 2019 10:25:10 GMT

Bochapmum3\" post_id=\"1905152\" time=\"1554439672\" user_id=\"167967:

I understand Google map does not work well in seoul.
