Hi. Can I asked what is the charges for those piano teacher who come to our house to teach? My son is finishing his Yamaha Junior Course soon (4 years). I’m thinking of switching him to Individual Classical Piano where there is ABRSM exam and the progress should be faster. The fees seem to varies a lot - $140 to $180 for a grade 1 student. Is this normal?

He got his abrsm grade 5 certificate in less than a year study from zero, but current music school has so much problem so we call it quit. He likes to compose music pieces as well but he’s a very shy 14 yo. Anyone has recommendation for serious lesson/ appropriate teacher to groom him in music? He studies in International school so he has time to do after school enrichment.

I have over 13 years of piano experience and passed my AMEB grade 8 with merit back in 2015. I was studying for a diploma but decided not to pursue it further in order to concentrate on my studies. I have done exams in Singapore and Australia for both practical and theory.

My kids have been with this private piano teacher (who has a BA from local La Salle College). She comes to our place for lessons and has been teaching my 3 kids for a while and this year she suddenly increased her fee (without transport) to $90/hr for G6&G7, $100/hr for G8. She charges additional $20 per month for transport for each student for lesson at the student's house. So this works out to ~ $1,200 per month for piano lessons for my 3 kids.
Based on what I googled, the market rate for G6 = $55-$70, G7 = $60-$75, G8 = $65-$80, Diploma > $70/hr.
And the market rate for the most expensive Diploma LTCL seems to be around $400 per month. So I wonder if what she charges is really too high.

I feel that she's not exceptionally good, just average and I still need to step in to help with my kids' practice, recording for exam submission, preparation for theory exams, etc. My kids usually get Merit.

Seeking views from others on KSP, do you think her increased rates are reasonable? Of course, I am thinking of changing to a different teacher if I can get someone else with equal competence to teach my kids for less.
