Somehow, I don't think we will see large fluctuations in the COP compared to 2016 for top schools for 2017 entry to sec 1.

The top 20 ish schools are already having a COP of 250 and above. Unless there has been a drastic cut / increase in classrooms or places, or a significant policy change, a + - 5 is rather unthinkable for these schools now.

The latest large fluctuation (up to 5 points upwards) happened from 2015 to 2016 ( I am referring to the year of entry into Sec 1 not the PSLE year). It was more marked for the top schools.
Somehow, I don't think we will see large fluctuations in the COP compared to 2016 for top schools for 2017 entry to sec 1.

I know students who started taking 3rd language in Sec 2. They had to pass tests though. So, the door is not closed yet. You can ask MOE, school and MOELC. Don't give up until the 3 of them say no to you because sometimes the person that answers your queries doesn't know that it can be done.

Psle score is your queue number. So imagine all the post-psle kids in a long queue, starting from highest score to lowest.
When it is your turn, the system will then run through your 6 choices in order of the preference listed. So if Cedar is your first preference, put right on top. If Cedar still has a vacancy, it will be given to you. If it has no more vacancies, the system will move to your second choice and check if there are vacancies. If there is, that will be allotted to you and the system move on to the next student in queue. If there isn't, the system move on to your next choice and does the same again.

Yes that was the same explanation provided by my boy's math tutor to his students. He asked them to imagine a huge school hall with one teacher manning a counter and the entire P6 cohort queing up in front of that counter in order of their T-scores from highest to lowest.

Once it is a student's turn, he will go to that counter and be asked which school he wants. If his 1st choice has a vacancy, congrats in you go! If not then they will check if your 2nd choice has a vacancy and so on until the 6th choice. If no school is allocated once all 6 choices are exhausted, the student will be assigned to a secondary school nearest to his house that still has a vacancy.

My boy's tutor did emphasize to his students that the T-score is nothing more than a queue number and they should not use it as a measure of self-worth.

For my choices max fluctuation 4 - 5 points. Let see if still hold for current batch.

Overall results is better. Shifted up but population of students decreased by 478 compared to 2015 batch.

Not sure which 2 factors’ effect on COP is more significant. Anyway it’s pass 3pm. Just have to keep our fingers crossed & come back on 21/12 to share news of S1 posting.

It is done and done. why worry? For every path chosen, there are others being given up. Secondary school is when we meet good friends and have some of the most memorable years of our lives. Make the best 6 choices you can and know that at every one of them, friends are waiting.
And if it doesn't work out, just work hard to transfer.

Agree...Just have to be sure that your kid is prepared to go to any one of the 6 schools in the selection.

Again would like to know what's the typical fluctuation of the COP of the schools over the past 5 years. Will the deviation go beyond 5 points? Just wanna use stats to assure ourselves that the choices are bao jiak one.
