Actually, as a kid, I liked to eat them raw... ie. just slice it into slabs and then munch on it :evil:

Otherwise I have to wait for my mother to fry it in some kind of egg batter. Then it becomes gooey and soft... didn't quite like it.

Easy to cook nian gao.

Fried - cut into rectangular or one inch wide sizes & coat with beaten eggs & straight into oil for a quick fry (just seconds enuf to cook egg wash into crispy edges. I love this coz of it egg aroma & crispy edges

Steam - cut into any size u fancy, coat plate with a little oil to prevent sticking & steam for abt 10 min.

I won’t be buying the above cos I have already bought from elsewhere.


Malaysia only allows reunion dinner for families residing at the same address. I find this idea is good. I have already invited my parents, bro, sis and 2 cousins over for potluck on 3rd day of CNY. I am a bit worried now about having a meal together but since invited already cannot cancel, not nice lah.
