I am not sure what’s best for my child going to P1 next year. I wish to have his school work reinfoced and homework done.

We live minutes away from Bishan’s Junction 8 Mall.

1. is a private tutor or sending to a centre better?
2. if it is a centre, what are the better centres for chinese - Han, Hua, Berries, Tien Hsia or? And other subjects?
3. is there a government body that gauges the performance of these centres? If there is, which is it?

He has performed miracle for my best friend’s daughter whom many teachers have given up. The girl was always failing her English even though she went to the best English enrichment classes. In the end, although it was short 6 months, she managed to obtain an A for her PSLE. We were surprised too. My friend told me this tutor is trained in motivational skills and tailor his teaching according to the child’s learning style. So, I also got this tutor for my son for his PSLE last year although his schedule is already full. Thank god, I did that, my son who has no confidence in his compre & compo, improved from a B to an A. Before this, he was in a popular tuition Centre for years.


I thought it will be useful for people to know that there are such dedicated tutors around…so don’t give up hope on your child or keep sending the kids to the best enrichment classes with no results.

I will thoroughly recommend Ms Chen from Nicklebee tutors. She is a very experienced ex-Meridian JC teacher and she now provides group chemistry tuition at Bishan and Punggol. My neighbour's son was tutored by Ms Chen in 'O' Level chemistry.

Thanks to the recommendations here, I placed my dd on the waitlist for Nicklebee Tutors (Bishan Centre) and she is now being taught math by tutor Zhou. I noticed a marked improvement in my dd's aversion towards math and she now actively does her school math homework instead of being nagged to do so. Tutor Zhou is very dedicated and can be strict if the students do not meet his expectations. In spite of his strictness, my dd enjoys his lessons and she tells me that under his stern exterior, tutor Zhou is actually very patient and humorous.

Definitely worth the premium fees he charges and I am assured that my money is well spent. I will strongly encourage parents to place their ds and dd on the waitlist ASAP. I have called in few days ago. Already enrolled my child in the exam preparation classes. 🙂 I feel this program kinda like intensive classes for the kids to reinforce understanding through map mapping and focus learning. There are also various topics to choose from. I can then select according to my child's learning preferences. 🙂

I think the final year exam preparation class is offered to S1 to S3 Maths and Science.
I don’t want to miss this coz they having promotion if you join more classes in September.
But i saw on their website, they also have O level exam preparation workshop.
You can try enrol your S4 kid there.

mr zhou teaches at nicklebee tutors. his centre is in bishan but he also teach at punggol. for pri 4 and pri 5 he charges $ 440 for 4 lessons. each lesson is 2hr and his class is small sized type, max is 4 students. if i am not wrong, mr zhou's math classes are all fully booked. maybe you can contact him directly to join the waiting list?

my pri5 girl goes to a famous math tutor mr zhou at bishan/sin ming area. her math problem sums in paper 2 much better now. mr zhou teaches at nicklebee tutors. he also teaches in punggol. he mentioned to me before that he has a colleague teaching chemistry at his bishan branch too.

I am not too familiar with the Bishan area, but there aren't a lot of enrichment centres that focuses exclusively on creative writing. The ones I know are The Alternative Story and Think Tank and The Story Tree (in CCK). I can't speak for their programmes though. You may wish to head over to the English section where there's a discussion thread (at least for TAS) and find out more from there.


Hopefully, there'll be others who are more savvy with the Bishan area to assist you fully! Best of luck!

My boy's science improved from a D to B and chinese from a C to B in a short span of 5months. More importantly, what i really noticed is a change in his attitude towards learning. As a mother, i'm very happy to see my boy enjoying the process of learning and wanting more. 🙂

Class size is relatively small, around 3-6 kids. very ideal for me. i'm sending my daughter there too in Jan for math and chinese. Hope what i shared help you! 🙂
