<![CDATA[Secondary School Selection 2013]]>Anxious mum needs some opinions on Mayflower Secondary vs Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary on Sec 1 posting. Please share your experiences from each of these strengths and challenges. Comments welcome as both are good schools. Just wanted to know more pros and cons. Thank you! :imcool:

Some time miracle and study smart does happen. My Second DD used to get around your T-score 248. We knew she is smart but kind of laze back. Then, in her PSLE, when she collected the result for PSLE, she was so still, no excited emotion. Then she slowly said \"i passed\". Made us worry. She made it to 270. Something must habe spurred her to adjust her study strategies.

Zhong Hua secondary (beside Serangoon MRT). Or Xin Min Secondary. Both COP is around 23+.

River Valley High 4. Methoddist Girl school. How do your think about this four schools, It is very hard to go in!!

These are top schools - so they will attract the top students. Based on PSLE results only, you are looking at no less than 255 score for a seat.
All, too, take in DSA under different reasons - sports, academic, CCAs, general. All have IP programs, either A- or IB-programs. But RVH is in Jurong! Two are all-girl schools, and the other two are mixed.
Expect the kids to be strong-willed, leadership-type, out-spoken and smart-y too. All have more than one unique or specialized program available too.
Hard to go in? Maybe more like , have to adjust quickly once in!

River Valley is at Boon Lay.

Bukit Timah area. NJC, Nanyang Girl, SCGS and MGS are nearer.

Is your daughter a very strong student? Even if she is, it would be wise to have at least a couple of schools in her list of choices that are 'safe' for her to get in. When my daughter was selecting schools, we chose 2 hard-to-get-in ones, 2 probably-can-get-in ones, and 2 safe ones. You don't want the case that she can't get any of her choices and gets posted somewhere far away.

Which path do you want her to reach -
6 years later (she will sit for A level, 2020) ?

If you think yr dd is more suitable to study \"IB\" programme :-
Out of the 4 Secondary schools -
choose MGS, because she'll join ACSI in (year 5 + 6).


The other 3 schools : lead to \"A level\".

If she prefer \"A level\" :-
Ask her if she prefer to go \"All Girls\" Secondary school ?
Out of these 4 listed : select \"Raffles Girls' Secondary\".

If she prefer mixed Secondary school :-
Choose either National Junior College, or River Valley High.
If she prefer a heavier dosage of Chinese immersion culture -
Choose River Valley High.

NYGH's COP for non-affiliation is 261, even higher than RGS. If they can't get into RGS, they can't get into NYGH so that can't be the reason. Maybe they want to improve their Chinese? πŸ˜‚
Someone with 258+3 would not be able to get into RGS but would be able to get into NYGH.
