My child was not an EESIS holder. So the $2400 part that was supposed to go towards school fees for independent schools, we received the prorated sum for school fees refund in one of the later months in JC1. thereafter, i think we probably got school fees reduction of $200 a month (i don't monitor these things closely as everything is GIRO). but the refund came to my account, i.e. the account that pays school fees.

the $750 was received in one lump sum and it went straight to my child's bank account (I don't have access to my child's account - my kids have their own accounts and they manage their own atm cards and paynow). as for the precise timing
the sum is received, not sure about JC2 but for JC1, it was late in the year.

The $750 allowance was pay out beginning of year 2 and $2400 was divided into 12 monthly payout of $200 per month and pay directly to school, to offset the school fees? Thks

Frankly, I have no idea how and why the elder kiddo got it....all I know is the child's Sec 4 results - which were decent (but not top notch) except for HMT which was super bad (my kids didn't take HCL in Pri school and we speak only English at home). Maybe the personal statement matters too? lol All I recall is that the results are out super late - in 2nd half of the year. The actual money was credited like end of the year or something.

i think what i'm trying to say is, just try if you are an IP kid and if you can be bothered to put in effort to apply, even if your grades don't seem to exactly meet the L2R5 criteria (or what we think is an L2R5 criteria).

Actually in 2020 when I applied for my eldest in her sec 4 years, it was already L2R5. And yes we use internal exam results and not O level HCL results as deadline is sometime in 2020 as well.

I am not sure any IP Sch will send their students to take O level CL in sec 3 when they are taking HCL syllabus since they do not need to use CL grades for any purpose.

There are IP students who either don't do HCL (and they take Sec 4 O level CL) , or even if they had done HCL, had taken O level CL in Sec 3. These tend to be the kids who are weaker in Chinese (like my kids oops).

do not take any pu-hua (O level),
so in order
to qualify for L2R5 8 points or less,

that means
your gao hua (O level) exam need to preferably score a distinction, either A1 or A2.

It is L2R5 not L1R5….some are strong in 1 language but not the other so it is quite challenging for the IP students to get 8 and below for L2 (ie LA and HCL) and R5. For JAE, they can use CL in lieu of HCL.
